Eh, the ratings system works just fine. Its the people that don't work fine. Now, someone is bound to haveta hit that reply button right away, but get this. I'm over at a store, setting up a vendor. Then comes by this person. About a month in game, so relatively new AV. We start chatting about all kinds of stuff. Then, out of the blue, like a smack from <insert choice diety here>, exclaims "OMG, you have sooo many negative ratings". Then continued on like it was a big deal. All I could think in my head is "WTF does that matter?" Let me see, my worst is about -5, -4, -6 last I looked, eh, probably more . That was all caused about 8 monthes ago getting into a shouting match. Soooo, I deserved them, so what?!? Is it a big deal? I don't think so. So some people didn't like me! Eh, I had about the same feelings for them too... Hell, just for shnits and giggles, lets have a "Neg-rate Trimda Party"... Eh, its what you make of it, so those who get neg-rated, take some ritallin, down a micky of your favourite hard liqure, smoke a splif, or do whatever else may get you to relax. Common, do you care IRL if someone you don't know even remotely dislikes you? I have an inkling, probably not. As for the specific example given in this thread, shrug it off. Some people (not saying the specific person named in the example) are putz's. Simple as that. Often people do not engage brain before clicking, so just let it roll off your back. The only people's opinion I care for are those who are very close to me. Peace out.

Just a reminder that the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life.
Threads that are addressed to a single individual are inappropriate on the forums and as such, I've removed the other names 'called out' in this thread, but have left it open with the hope that it can further discussion on ways to improve the ratings system.

There is only one way to improve the ratings system...and that is to abolish it all together. At one time it may have been a good idea now it is just absurd.

I dunno. I have 150 points in my building score. Nearly half of that came from making something in Burning Life. It would be sad to see that wiped out. But it DOES annoy me that I have more appearance points than behaviour and building. I feel like I'm just a ditz with a pretty face for it. So yeah, take the damn rating thing down. For aesthetic reasons, just make the box for our SL bios bigger to cover the space. I'm all for introducing a new way to negatively diss/rate someone though. Like for 1000L, we can do a voodoo-like thing and zap them in the ass. Just 3 times to be courteous. That's a lot of money but it would feel so-o-o good in a sick vindictive way.

Maybe there can be a way for people to express their feelings towards builds that would work without tieing it in with behavior, looks, or ultimately money. What you built in Burning Life ( Tamed Frustration ) was worth much more than points and the fact that you continue to create beautiful works like your Mermaid show that you are doing something you love ...people notice that rather than the points. I think the ratings take away from everything else and are completely meaningless when some people have been around for a while and have ratings under 200 but joe newb who started in september has over 700 in each category and has never as much as rezzed a cube. I think yer awesome for what you've created...not because you have points Then again the system does help warn us against those vile bastards like Darko

If none of the people at the event raised objections while the event was actually going on I can't see the problem. Nobody was forced to vote for any of the entries, and I know that at a few of the events I did I was frantic for a bit more content to stretch it out a bit. From: Cristiano Midnight Daemioth,
I imagine that if you host an event of a certain label, that you have some consistency of rules for that contest. That is what this issue was - the basic rules of a contest were violated. If you have sympathy for that as an event host, then let's let anything go in contests. As [edit: name removed] pointed out, if a tree is a piece of furniture, she might as well enter a car, since it has seats in it. [edit: name removed] is hardly a sour apple, but someone who has worked very hard as a furniture designer and is proud of her work. Do not label someone without knowing a situation.
