I was quite apprehensive to sign into SL today, and I signed in to find I was 900 prims over my 4096 m prim allotment. Did I tear much down? No. I added another 4000 meters of land in Federal (practically every last square inch of it) and now have 200 some odd prims left for for my use, instead of being 900 in the hole. The net result: paying 225 for a lifetime membership, and another 25 a month. Wow, for a company that claims to not need the money, they sure have found a way to penalize their most active players financially. You know the ones who build and make the stuff that all the coveted casual users are supposed to buy and be interested in. I have to admit, my first day impressions have not been wonderful. The prim limits are so ridiculously low it is laughable.

I had a long discussion with my girlfriend who has worked her ass off to build an extensive amount of beautiful furniture for sale in SL. She has a brand new store sitting empty in Clara that is already 200 prims over with very little furniture. It is interesting trying to explain that somehow this really is for the best for force players who want more than a cabin to be shelling out excessive amounts monthly.

I could go on and on but I will stop. Today has had highs and lows, the high point being Phillip Linden coming to my place in Federal to help me figure out why I was getting parcel full messages. The low point has to be watching some of my close friends in the game without the same financial resources I have deal with the shock of having to delete things and try not to lose faith in a game that is making them pay substantially more money for the exact same thing they had 2 weeks ago.

As a final thought, why do the land use fees go up exponentially? You can't have say, 6000 meters of land and pay for that, you have to go from 4096 to 8192, etc.. nothing in between. What is the sense in that, except to make more money? Again this is supposedly not about money, but LL is about the be the recipients of a lot more of it if Chip and I are any indication of how long time players are reacting.

anytime someone hangs out with Phillip it is the high point of their day.

Heh, you'll be happy to know that all the extra land I bought in freelon to get the prims I needed was underwater. I didn't take any prime real estate I have no intention of building anything on... for what it's worth.

The lake was originally the brainchild of Jericho Powers who originally terraformed it. It's one of the reasons I settled on that plot of land back while SL was still in Beta. I have now effectively protected the lake from being destroyed (except for one plot someone else bought under the water (please whoever you are don't raise it!).

I now demand that the lake be named after me! lol :D

Chocolate Chip Lake :D mmmm

I really wish they hadn't done away with the Land Usage Percentage bar, now I can't tell how much land theres left anywhere. This makes it a little harder to find land if you really need it. :/

I really like that lake too, it looks nice, some Sim's just look like a giant strewn tornado accident, lakes and mountains usualy help make it look a little more natural and classy. :D

I haven't really piped up in the forums yet but, i had to...

The only people really who think the prim limits are low now are those who are over their limits. For those of us who lived in sims with "prim hogs" and people who had prim heavy builds, the prim limit is a lot higher than what we're used to using.

Maybe now those people will know how the rest of us felt when we couldn't rez anything because the object usage was at 100%

Prim hogs vs. Prim Heavy builds.

The above post makes a needed distinction.

Prim hogging did Exist because we came up with the term for it.

Now, to what extent it existed and what it exactly detailed, that is up in the air, kind of like the debate as to what is art or what is porn, etc.

'I can't define prim hogging, but I know it when I see it'

That kind of thing.

Me personally, I would lean toward the thinking that there was very little prim hogging going on before. Mainly because I believed in the competitive nature of the game - people who were more successful had more resources and could do what they wanted with them.

Now, if I came across a set of 500 plain textured cubes all in a row, that's a fairly obvious situation.

But, to even remotely imply that Anything that Chip Midnight makes in game was prim hogging is ridiculous. Have you ever seen his things? Each prim is used to its maximum benefit/capacity. Every single piece of what he makes adds to the the overall whole of it. Nothing is unnecessary.

Obviously, he used more than his 'fair share' (under the new prim allotments) but he Used those prims. This is not prim hogging, this is prim heavy building and really made SL a better place.

Do I think the world will be destroyed by the prim limits? No way! It definitely will be a more "fair" place to be.

And now, if I do something that is prim intensive, as long as I have the land to support it, someone can't say word one to me. So, it is a relief.

The term prim hogging is purposefully pejorative and really now a moot term. Let's get over it and move on.

Prim hogging vs. prim intensive building. Used to be a useful distinction that not many people made. Now, I'm glad the distinction won't matter at all.

And Chip, sorry if it seems like I singled you out in this in any way. Seriously, dude, your creations in game are one of the reasons I'm here today. Simply breathtaking. I'm glad you are going to be able to continue in game, and I'm glad you now don't have to worry about someone unfairly calling you some kind of thief :)

Aw, thanks Onei :) I appreciate your kind words! I agree with you that the new system will better serve the majority and that it's a good thing. I really didn't start this thread to complain. I just thought people might be interested to see just how much some of us were able to support under the old system. And now that I've decided to pony up the $ to keep what I had, I actually have room to expand into other parts of the world without feeling like I'm taking anything away from anyone else. It's a good thing in the long run.

And Magnum, glad we're on the same page with the lake! :)
