It was also about three months ago. If there has changed as much as SL in that long time I'm sure things must be diferent now. In any case, I also witnessed hate speech while I was there and someone ran over me with a dune buggy three times and customer service never responded. I am still getting their there spam though...

Well, let's keep it real indeed. There are no underagers in There because the minimum age is 13.

As for griefers and prejiduce... it happened to me, and I don't know what else to tell you beyond that. Surely you don't claim to know everyone in There, so it's kind of silly to be so certain it didn't happen.

I tried 'There'.

In the first few minutes, I was IM spammed until I had to ignore the person (they wouldn't stop), and was run over by a Dune Buggy.

I never went back - mostly because of the passive consumerist vision they present. If you need me to explain, ask me in-world or whatever.

Most of the people in There I've met have been very nice and have helped me in There learning about it. There are some jerks in it, but thats anywhere you are Ingame and in RL. I was in it for about a month and started to not really like it, but the only thing that kept me in it were some of the friends I made in there. I'm not in There much anymore, only time I go in it anymore is when my GF is in it. She is now subscribed to SL too, but isn't Ingame much.

I tried There, for about an hour. It was fun driving the buggy around.. I ran over a couple of people (why not.. I'm on a trial account. .muhahahah).

I love the scenery, but the thing that really turned me off was how Disney-ish the whole thing felt. I kept feeling that the only allowable 4 letter words would be: darn, dang, etc....

Plus, you have to pay an additional $10 for the Explorer pack, which is the only way to get to all of the other islands.. It's like buying a car, then they tell you to pay extra for a gas tank, brakes, a/c.

There, I'm staying here. Buh-bye.

A lot of people have worked very hard for a long time to make a world that a lot of other people enjoy, and I don't feel it would be right to try to sabotage that.

Incidentally, almost everyone I've talked to in There are already well aware of SL and have even tried it out but haven't liked it.

Great post, Viola :)

Ok folks, I'm sure I'm not going to be very well liked after this post, but I've grown quite tired of these "There" threads.

While I understand the need for people to post about their experiences on There and wanting to recruit people to SL, I don't understand the hatred towards the game itself or the people who play it.

I played There for 6 months until I found SL. I no longer play it because I personally don't like it anymore. Yes, I spent FAR too much RL money on the game for clothing and objects, but that was *my* choice. No one made me purchase ThereBucks, I did it because I wanted to.

The people who play There are NOT less creative, less intelligent or less ANYTHING than the people who play SL. They are looking for a completely different online experience than we are. Some people just want to chat, ride vehicles and don't want to be bothered with building. For a while, that's what I preferred too, until I wanted something different.

As a matter of fact, before I found SL, I had an SL recruit approach me in There. That person's attitude was enough to keep me away from the game for another month or so until I knew of another person who was playing the game and tried it. I also have SL listed in my There profile, encouraging people to try it out, but I don't push my feelings about There or SL on other people... that's for them to decide.

This "We're better because we play SL" attitude is really quite pretentious. I for one, would really like to see posts about There be more concentrated to the person's experience and game/feature comparison to SL without the rest.

You probably shouldn't take all of this too seriously. Sometimes these threads are serious, I guess, but alot of times I think it's just fun and goofing off that motivates people to post to this type of thread. Er right?

Okay, I signed up for the Trial, waited 2 weeks. No answer. But today, I saw it. No more wait times, you can trial the game now, for 14 days. Everyone can download the client from the site without being elected. Yay!

They should have told me that. I waited and waited and only with pure luck, I saw that you can download it now. They did not inform me. That does not have to mean, that their costumer service is not good, but it can mean this :)

So I am downloading it just now. 90 Mb client. And the download speed is about 60 kb/sec. Second Life was 18 Mb and 90 kb/sec download speed :) Okay, that has nothing to say about the game, just a joke... But their servers are really slow... I hope, that the ingame servers can handle a standard TDSL line :)

I will write my impressions of the game down here, as soon as I have played it, but before I want to say something.

There costs only $4,95 per month. There has many things Second Life should have and Second Life has many things, There should have. With version 1.2 of Second Life, monthly accounts will be $5 lower than before. That is exactly the price of There, so just sign up for both games, for the price of one and be happy till the end :)

------------------

Okay, i was in There now :)
First thing to say, it runs really smooth.
On my Athlon XP 1400+ with 512 Mb DDR Ram and Geforce 3 graphics cards, Second Life is looking like a Slideshow. There runs really really smooth.

I have not see much yet, the servers went down :)
But I took the chance to look at the Items available to buy and at the locations you can have fun at. How can I describe it... There are really really not much items and interactive locations. The world is huge, the world alone looks way better then Secon life, but there is very low interactivity in there. Also, the items that you can buy are really expensive, compared to Items you can buy in SL. A hoverboard for example costs $15000 Therebucks. 15000 Therebucks are worth about 8 US Dollars (you can buy ingame Money, with Real life money, as many already know...). I think there is better for people who want to chat, then for people who actually want to "play" a game. One thing, that's good in there are the hoverboards and the buggies. OMG, the driving is a whole lot better than in SL. I hope we will get something like the There buggies in SL, soon.

Also, what many people here have mentioned, about the huge amount of websites ingame.. First, I did not understand what they meant with "huge amount of websites ingame". Where would this sites be? As soon as I got ingame, I saw em. There IS a Website :) All Item descriptions are written on real (and very slow) websites. But that is no contra. If their webservers would be faster, it would even be better than the system we have in SL, because you can do much more with this system. You can add Pictures and tables to a description. All things, you can do with a HTML editor...

Okay, that were only my first impressions. More to come, when the servers are back up :)
