Hi!!
How long of a runway is needed for the 737? I have a runway as part of my build at Eucalyptus Grove in Gallinas. It is approximately 60-80m long (I can't remember exactly and can't get on right now to check). It can be made longer if required for the 737. I would love to have Gallinas Airport be a landing point for the 737 and airships. Approximate location is Gallinas (225,212,306) Gallinas Airport has a height-adjustable skydiving platform and the airport itself makes a great place to base jump (from 300m over a forested area). Eucalyptus Grove is listed with the SLPRS. Please let me know what I need to do to get involved with this. ![]() Thanks!!!! -Ghoti _____________________

Hmm... unfortunately this project has delayed due to *ahem* other things, so I never got around to having the 737's fly to places other than Gray Field.
I still intend to do this at some point however! As for runway length... I should be able to work with 80m. It might look a little weird though because the aircraft's wingspan is 30m. ![]() _____________________

Hehe, I know how 'other things' go.
Hmmm... 30m wingspan... I might need to move the air traffic control tower hehehe. If you'd like, take a look at the Gallinas Airport and let me know. If its not suitable for the 737, I would still be very interested in being a stop on the airship tour. I think Gallinas Airport is currently the only airport in the area (I think they were called the LostLakes Sims, southeast part of the grid beyond the snow sims) and would make a nice drop-off point for passengers interested in exploring that area. -Ghoti _____________________

Technically a "floating airport", Konigmann Lippmann and I have built an aircraft carrier in Butsu (162, 191,[flight deck @ 36.5 actual]).
The construction is based on a modern American-design aircraft carrier but not a specific one. The flight deck is a rather long 243 meters running East to West (stern to bow) and has an angled landing area (8 degrees to port [WWWSW]) that is over 150 meters long. The forward twin catapults representing the launch area are some 50 meters long from "blast deflector to bow edge" We would be pleased to "host" any flyins by the 737, tour ballons, intrepid explorers or other aviators. Though still "under construction, we have partially fleshed out Primary Flight Operations Center, Navigation/Bridge Plot and ATC/Combat Information Center decks for exploration/inspection. Additionally, a limited number of aircraft are on display and for sale on the flight and hangar decks. One word of caution, the landing pattern is somewhat restricted due to a void along the north edge of the sim. Also, not that your final approach may require thinking ahead asd the GOM building is on the line of your final approach necessitating a bit of a steep final descent. (So far, no accidents involving death or even major damage... We do have fire and rescue on standby just in case, however.) Additonally, we have a Hank Ramos ILS Beacon system in place for "homing" purposes. |

What's am ILS Beacon?-Ghoti Instrument landing sysem is one construction.. In Hank's system it is a beacon which communicates with touring ballons hat are lisening for such things so that his touring balloons can navigate. Think of them as waypoints, anchor points or simply know locations that can be used by his system to navigate by. (At least that is the way I think of them.. probably someone else can give a better explanation.. or at least a more technical one.) |

What's am ILS Beacon? -Ghoti ILS stands for Instrument Landing System, used in RL with airplanes. With my old Touring balloons, any object with the ILS script in it would shout (on a private channel) some location, altitude, and name information to any vehicle that was listening on that channel and could interpret the values. The information would then be used by the balloon vehicle to navigate to the prim to land. _____________________

(At least that is the way I think of them.. probably someone else can give a better explanation.. or at least a more technical one.) ILS stands for Instrument Landing System. In RL, a beacon sends a directional radio signal out so airplane's instruments can tell where a runway's glide path is in relation to the aircraft. However, not knowing how this works I would assume it's really closer to a NDB, or non-directional beacon. A non-directional beacon sends out a radio signal that aircraft instruments can use to simple know what heading the beacon is at in relation to the aircraft. Then there are VOR's, which send directional signals out in a way that aircraft can follow "sky highways". They are a bit more complicated and I won't go into their details. ![]() _____________________

The beacon simply shouts it's location and various bits of information to allow the vehicle to auto-land using the directional information. It could easily be upgraded to provide landing flight-path information which would make it mroe of a mixture of all of them ![]() _____________________

Neat! Do you still have touring balloons? -Ghoti Nahh, I'm waiting for a llRegionName2WorldCoordinates fuction before putting them back on the market again. To hard to keep up with new sims, world coordinates, and try to juggle that massive amount of data in LSL script. _____________________

This is extremely disappointing to me too. Apotheus put a lot of work into ensuring that the airhips had little to no impact on sim performance, and a lot of people told use how much they enjoyed either riding them or just seeing them drift by. However, there were two or three comments (and on one occasion, an extremely rude complaint) that the airships ghosted on sim borders near someone's home. Honestly, we have no control over when objects ghost. As we all know, objects and avatars seem to ghost frequently. The only thing we can do to prevent ghosting is to get rid of the airships entirely. I hope LL can address this sometime soon so that we can fly the airship around SL again. Cubey - I'm curious, if an object "ghosts" then all a person has to do to get rid of the ghost is log off and back on again right? Isn't a ghost just that the persons client missed the update? Also - does ghosting have an affect on a sims performance? If it dosent', why the big deal? This just sucks - the airships were an awesome value to the SL community. _____________________

There are now two tours to choose from: an old-world tour that includes the two Welcome Areas, and a southeast tour that includes the snow sims. Drop by the airship terminal in Abbotts for a ride. Awesome! _____________________

Cubey - I'm curious, if an object "ghosts" then all a person has to do to get rid of the ghost is log off and back on again right? Isn't a ghost just that the persons client missed the update? Correct. It's entirely client-side. That's why you can be in group of avatars, delete an object and some of them will see a ghost and others wont. Relogging fixes it. It would be nice if the Debug menu had a "reload all" option that reloads everything in view. It would save having to log off and on so often. Also - does ghosting have an affect on a sims performance? If it dosent', why the big deal? This just sucks - the airships were an awesome value to the SL community. Nope, I don't think it would affect the sim's performance. It might affect client performance, since the client is still rendering the object as if it still existed. (BTW, I love that "cat scan" icon )_____________________

This shiznit gets bettah and bettah.
Take to the skies, ride on! ![]() One kewl thing I have to emphasize about this is that since the transport is automated, you can chat with your friends while taking a tour. Since it's hard to currently walk-and-type in SL simultaneously, this is such a fun thing to do. _____________________

ohh there's an ARMORD store and a tower (Marcos Fonzarelli) in Rodeo Drive sim too but thats an Island sim and I'm not sure if he has a landing pad there or not.

Well, I don't know if you're still looking for airports, but I thought I'd let you know to keep an eye on Clara, as I plan on putting something in near the rebuilt Clara Amphitheatre (space permitting, of course)
But I'lll get back to you on its progression, probably be a while before I can get to it. AM _____________________
