There is a tiny airport in Gallinas now, out on the eastern frontier near my home. It's not a large airport, though; probably not a good place to try to land a 737.

a quick question..
What's the point of these planes and blimps flying around SL with noone in them? You said they departs every 30/60 mins, so why not just have them depart only if there's someone to ride in them? Seems like a waste (however small or large) or sim resources if they aren't being used.. |

Seems like a waste (however small or large) or sim resources if they aren't being used.. Lots of things exist in Second Life without being "used". Much of what you see is built to be seen and to add to the overall SL experience. That's not a waste of resources. If we were only allowed to build things that had a practical purpose, then SL would be a very empty place. _____________________

What's the point of these planes and blimps flying around SL with noone in them? I've hitched a ride on one of Cubey's blimps in-flight, as it was flying past the welcome area. I think that's the point. |

Today marks the grand opening of the Butsu Airfield.
Located at Butsu (57,170,30), the primary parking ramp currently has a limited selection of Korg Sygian-designed aircraft for sale. There is a Hank Ramos ILS Beacon platform located overhead at Butsu (72, 210, 75) for ease of tour landmarking/planning). Everyone is welcome to fly in, drop a boat in the adjacent water area and enjoy themselves. Butsu is a great area to start exploring from and/or to fly/boat in. |

I'm sorry to say that all airship and 737 flights have been cancelled, hopefully temporarily.

I hope you get them back up and running soon. I took the airship trip yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great stuff! |

This is extremely disappointing to me too. Apotheus put a lot of work into ensuring that the airhips had little to no impact on sim performance, and a lot of people told use how much they enjoyed either riding them or just seeing them drift by.
However, there were two or three comments (and on one occasion, an extremely rude complaint) that the airships ghosted on sim borders near someone's home. Honestly, we have no control over when objects ghost. As we all know, objects and avatars seem to ghost frequently. The only thing we can do to prevent ghosting is to get rid of the airships entirely. I hope LL can address this sometime soon so that we can fly the airship around SL again. _____________________

Again, I voice my open and enthusiastic appreciation for these creations of Cubey and Apotheus. I had a real delight catching the rides while they were going on, and I DO hope they'll be back up in the not-too-distant future. I want to see the magic return to the skies and I want to see a lot of SLers, old and new, enjoy experiences like these.

That sucks. I really hope you hit the skies again soon. This is such a wicked project.
Whiny ass biatches. We put up with rotating for sale signs the size of planes in every god damn sim and we cant tolerate a few ghosted planes to keep this fantastic project running? Come on what the fuck? People try to look beyond your own selfish needs please. Best of luck guys. _____________________

Good grief... It's not like you're ghosting them on purpose. Whenever ghosts bother me, I relog. It's not that hard, its not the end of the world. However, if they were constantly ghosting somewhere that actually interfered with my stuff, I'd be upset. Somehow I don't think you'd be that careless, but not having actually seen the planes flying (drat, I was planning to, honest!), I don't know for sure.
Is there a way to secure a "right of way" along or near the paths you wish to take, to perhaps take a slightly more circuitous route that avoids the complainers? ![]() At any rate, I hope you get the project off the ground again... and I hope that your attempts to provide something interesting for your fellow SL residents are better appreciated in future. |

Apotheus and Cubey, thank you so much! I think the 737 and zeppelin each distracted me from trips to the Ivory Tower in Noyo on two different occassions, but it was well worth postponing a lesson for the experience!
![]() This is a little disheartening though -- I was really inspired by this experiment and was thinking up all sorts of other things that could be done. Monorail, buses... and hopefully with a little time something not directly analogous to RL would pop up. Please open another thread when flights resume! I don't want to miss it... |

I hitched a ride on the air bus when it was going overhead near the Ivory Tower. I thought it was fantastic and was rather hoping to see it fly over again so I could have another ride.
Hope you get these problems sorted out - something really unique like this is definitely needed, and appreciated, in SL. |

Unfortunately the problem is not ours to fix, its LL's. Ghosting is a client side phenomena where the client doesnt get told to destroy the objects on screen, so they just kinda stay there.
This will happen mainly on sim borders, due to the object needing to be re-rezzed as it enters a new sim, and deleted from the old sim. |

Okay, after some modification we have flights available once again although they are no longer automatically scheduled.
There is a sign at Abbotts (35, 59) that you can touch to schedule/create a flight. It will give you your choice of flights and once you've made your selection, the flight is announced and created on the runway. This means if you see airships or 737's flying around, someone was or is riding it. I seriously hope this is enough to avoid the wrath of a few people who just aren't interested in the greater good. _____________________

The airship is now running again too. Like the 737, it only leaves the dock when someone starts the route manually.
To take the airship tour, go to the northwest corner of Abbotts. At a height of 100m, you'll see the Airship Terminal. You can start a tour using the control panel there. Enjoy! _____________________

There are now two tours to choose from: an old-world tour that includes the two Welcome Areas, and a southeast tour that includes the snow sims. Drop by the airship terminal in Abbotts for a ride.
