I usually eat peanut butter toast for breakfast with several cups of good coffee; I buy ground coffee from Starbucks to use in our drip machine at home because cheap coffee is such a waste of time, IMHO.

I love Thai food so much, I could eat it almost all the time. I have several books of good Thai recipes, too, and I always have 3-4 kinds of curry paste and a big bottle of fish sauce in the fridge. I miss living up in Seattle since there are a lot of good Thai restaurants there (and some Malaysian-Thai ones, too). I have my favorite Thai place in the near vicinity that we frequent. The really great thing about Thai is that the really good Thai restaurants usually aren't that expensive (at least, not around here).

I also love Indian and Vietnamese food, as well. Pho soup is so tasty, filling and relatively healthy and easy to make. I keep pho soup base and dried noodles around, too, so it's easy to use up some leftover steak or roast by slicing it thinly and adding it to the soup. Of course, it's best if you use fresh basil and lime wedges for extra flavor.

One really great place to visit if you go to Seattle or Portland, OR, is a large Asian market called Uwajimaya. They have a great selection of Asian groceries, a fish market, nice produce, a "deli" with prepared food and sushi/sushimi, a restaurant, and a bookstore where they sell books, magazines, comic books, music, movies, and lots of assorted stuff. It's really worth the trip, if you're in the area and interested in Asian food or culture.

w00t thanks so much, going to be in Seattle next week for a conference.

Any other fine dining suggestions? preferably between 30-60 a plate.

There is one indonesian place that is supposed to be really good.

Ever tried Ethiopian food? :)

Very interesting stuff. Basically they have these large, but thin, kinda rubbery, bubbly pan breads on a big platter. On top of that you'll have several different things from raw beef and spices kinda stuff, to different lentil and spices, kinda like hummus. Its kinda like indian spices but different food all together. VERY interesting. That and the whole family gets together everyday for coffee kinda like they do tea in Britain. Britain right ;) I think thats where they have their tea religeously.

Some other things I've had that I would recomend is truley authentic Mexican food. Not the Tex Mex stuff we have, but the more traditional stuff.

Last weekend I had my first Hangar steak. Gawd that was sooooooo good. Gotta try one if you ever get the chance.

I've had "Kobe" beef a couple of times, but if you ask the people where it's from , its actually from a place in Australia, which means it's not really Kobe beef, because that only comes from Kobe Japan. LIARS!!!

Fua Gras is good as hell, but I refuse to eat it anymore after seeing how badly the ducks are treated :(

I think Kobe beef is suppose to be really dope since that island only produces 300 heads of cow a year. It's super good since the fat is basically translucent when you cut it up.

I read this year Arnold put a ban on force feeding goose in Cali (foie gras is an oversized goose liver which is produced by force feeding goose). It doesn't come in effect until 2009 or so. This is to give time to figure out how to produce foie gras without the force feeding.

As for the whole food thing, I'm kind of lucky. Within a 100 meter radius of my apartment, there's a Chinese, Thai, Indonsian, Mexican, and Italian restaurant. A little hole in the wall south eastern asian market and a Russian deli/market.

It's too bad they all suck besides the Indonesian place and the markets.

As for good food, I'm craving some Korean BBQ kalbi beef on a bricket burner in downtown LA. Or some Shabu Shabu on the west side.. or some ceviche tostada from my favorite Roach Coach near Venice Beach.

Yes I have, once, in Houston, and the bread you mention is something the likes of which I've never tasted before or since. Very unique, and the waiter had to teach us to tear off little pieces and use them as grippers to snag the other goodies on the platter. Ageless community-style dining at its finest!

For the uninitiated: the part that Wiggle doesn't mention is that you'll need approximately twelve quarts of your favorite ice-cold beverage to make it through an Ethiopian meal without calling an ambulance. Ethiopian restaurants (well, this one at least) sneer at the concept of "mildly seasoned;" the majority of their food would send the Texas Five-Alarm Chili Champ home crying to his momma.

PS A (quick, focused) trip to Baskin-Robbins after an Ethiopian sit-down is not a bad idea, but the chain reaction unleashed by combining Chocolate Mint ice cream with the dinner ingredients may warrant a Federal emergency containment action.

Hotter than even wasabi, yoshi? I think alot of people can relate to that. Donkey years ago, when I bought my first box of sushi, I saw a small container full of green stuff. The fact that it smelled fresh and light and refreshing lulled me to a false sense of security. I took a dollop of it and took a taste.

For the next 5 minutes, I couldnt move ... just sitting there transfixed at the different colours that my eyes saw. I swore my nose smoked ... Intense ringing in my head.

Why'd no one ever warned me about these sort of thing?!

But I would love to try ethiopian food, it does sound interesting :) I'm up for it! Havent come acrossed one though

I love good food. Thai is some of my favorite in the world, because I love the rich rich spicyness. Panang soup is the best in the world!!!

/drools

Have you ever had REAL Thai food? Not this stuff you get in America. Thai food at a Thai restauraunt IN Thailand. I couldn't eat spicy foods before I went there. Tabasco, jalepenos, way too hot for me. After 2 years in Thailand, jalepenos are like eating water.

ok so Safeway, a supermarket chain here, not sure where else it is, has this deli section with alot of different sorts of olives.

There is this one kind, omg... Calabria olives (i think, waves to Cartridge) soaked, drenched, swimming in olive oil and red pepper flakes. Not just a few flake mind you, but at least a half a scad of flakes per scoop. wootwootomg.

You can only take two or three before you have to pull out the Frascati.

mmmmmmmmmmmmfood.

Frascati Superiore is one of my favorite wines. It's a white wine and it's 14.5...
Btw, Frascati is near Rome...

Oh yes, used to be able to eat a habanero...Carefully, but I could eat it.

Not as tough as I used to be, but the lady still spices the food correctly if you ask for spicy... Mmmmmm A few spoonfulls of soup and you're sweating your ass off.

OMG Ethiopian food rawks. There's an awesome Ethiopian restaurant here in Toronto (yeah, Canada!) called, oddly enough, "Ethiopian House Restaurant". It's a very small, very cozy place, the atmosphere and food both are amazing. ^^

And they roast their own coffee beans. The smell almost made me swoon with delight. ^^

And frankincense! Oooh! I love that stuff. ^^
