My Relationship with Food

Okay, I have a disturbing and unnatural relationship with food. (no, not that unnatural sicko)

Most mornings I walk down to the diner on the corner and order breakfast to go. A breakfast platter consists of 2 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 2 pieces of toast and a portion of home fries.

Depending on the day and stupid luck I will have one of two people preparing my breakfast. There is a woman who makes it just the way I like it. The bacon is nice and soft, the toast is well buttered and she gives me a good sized portion of home fries.

There is a man who just takes no pride in his work. He now manages to get the bacon and butter correct but he always skimps on the home fries. He skimps on the home fries!

You could completely just not put any bacon on the platter but you cannot skimp on the home fries.

The problem is that because of this simple fact I am convinced that this man is a bad person. I really think if I found out he died, I would be relieved. You can mention the home fries to him and he just doesn't get it. Does he seriously think that the woman is being too liberal with the home fries? (as if that is possible)

I live this woman. She provides my food the way I love it. I truly think this man is sinister. In my mind skimping on home fries is a gateway behavior to murder and grand larceny. He is just evil to the core.

I make these same judgements about anyone who provides me food.

God, people actually eat like that in america? That is insane. Standard breakfast around here is bread and butter. Maybe an espresso for the caffeine addicts.
I prefer to eat my bread without butter though, and drink milk. Or have a small bowl of cereal.

Lol Eggy this would be considered a light breakfast by some.

That sounds like a nice breakfast to me.

Good hard working farm families have even bigger breakfast with lots of eggs meat and biscuits to get em through the hard work and build big bodies to deal with the work. Many dont work on farms, but still eat huge breakfast like that and get fat.

Its a cultural thing left over from the more agricultural days is my guess.

My realtionship with food is pretty interesting. I enjoy anything from Ramen noodles to meals prepared by the Iron Chef, Matsaharu Morimoto.

I'm a lot leaner now than when I started SL. I don't know what this means exactly, but I do feel a lot better and now enjoy working up a sweat versus being sedentary. I enjoy food that is horrible for me, but the key is just getting more of a 'buffer' in your daily intake so you can occasionally do 'bad' things and be okay. Works for me :)

Mostly it is about limiting sweets salts and fats...Which is basically what a mcdonalds meal is...Fatty hamburger, SALTY fries, sweet soda.

Mmm tastes so good.

why not ask for a little more fries neehai ... its like when me and my friend go out for some food, and sometimes, when we order the same thing, I noticed that I'd have lesser food. I'd ask the guy for a little bit more, and he'd usually comply, gratis.

Out of curiosity, are you asian, wiggles?

Me ... I'm from Sg, the chief reason why I asked if you were from asia, is because I'm on a quest to find south east asian .... sl players. I've yet to find any ...

:( Awww Sorry sweety Good luck in your quest.

As far as finding some authentic thai...hehe, I know of two restaurants in my town that has people that just moved from there and regularly go back. This one young couple has absolutely amasing noodle dishes and use TONS of fresh basil...So good. Their curry duck soup is absolutely to die for. This other lady is older and has been here for a while but she still goes back yearly to seek out new and better recipes. She said the main differnce n her soup and their is the size of bowl you get. She said when she goes there she usually has to get get two bowls.

Woo. I want to go to asia pretty bad, but the travel is so damn expensive and I am not good at saving money :(

Likewise, Travelling anywhere out of my range, is really really pricey ... But I can only hope that my savings works out well :)

The great thing about thai food is that they use alot of wonderful flavourful herbs ... sooo yummy .. :) I think you'd love indian tandoori with naan bread ... if you like thai food, maybe you could try some indonesian food too :)

There is one indonesian place that is supposed to be really good.

Ever tried Ethiopian food? :)

Very interesting stuff. Basically they have these large, but thin, kinda rubbery, bubbly pan breads on a big platter. On top of that you'll have several different things from raw beef and spices kinda stuff, to different lentil and spices, kinda like hummus. Its kinda like indian spices but different food all together. VERY interesting. That and the whole family gets together everyday for coffee kinda like they do tea in Britain. Britain right ;) I think thats where they have their tea religeously.

Some other things I've had that I would recomend is truley authentic Mexican food. Not the Tex Mex stuff we have, but the more traditional stuff.

Last weekend I had my first Hangar steak. Gawd that was sooooooo good. Gotta try one if you ever get the chance.

I've had "Kobe" beef a couple of times, but if you ask the people where it's from , its actually from a place in Australia, which means it's not really Kobe beef, because that only comes from Kobe Japan. LIARS!!!

Fua Gras is good as hell, but I refuse to eat it anymore after seeing how badly the ducks are treated :(

I've been to thailand a few times and I really love northern Thai food.

The southern Thai isn't bad either. :)

Bread and Butter? Um, this conversation is for people who don't live in prison.

Breakfast is the only meal of the day I eat with any regularity. So I try to make it a good one. On any given day I may eat lunch and dinner is usually whatever I can eat whenever I can eat it.

Breakfast is my morning gift to myself everyday. Well, that and internet porn and masturbation, but you probably didn't need to know that.

I am massively anal about the way I eat. I always have to add some kind of condiment. I can't "just eat it". If I don't have certain condiments for certain meals I will not/cannot eat said meal.

Glad I'm not the only one with food issues. :o

I usually eat peanut butter toast for breakfast with several cups of good coffee; I buy ground coffee from Starbucks to use in our drip machine at home because cheap coffee is such a waste of time, IMHO.

I love Thai food so much, I could eat it almost all the time. I have several books of good Thai recipes, too, and I always have 3-4 kinds of curry paste and a big bottle of fish sauce in the fridge. I miss living up in Seattle since there are a lot of good Thai restaurants there (and some Malaysian-Thai ones, too). I have my favorite Thai place in the near vicinity that we frequent. The really great thing about Thai is that the really good Thai restaurants usually aren't that expensive (at least, not around here).

I also love Indian and Vietnamese food, as well. Pho soup is so tasty, filling and relatively healthy and easy to make. I keep pho soup base and dried noodles around, too, so it's easy to use up some leftover steak or roast by slicing it thinly and adding it to the soup. Of course, it's best if you use fresh basil and lime wedges for extra flavor.

One really great place to visit if you go to Seattle or Portland, OR, is a large Asian market called Uwajimaya. They have a great selection of Asian groceries, a fish market, nice produce, a "deli" with prepared food and sushi/sushimi, a restaurant, and a bookstore where they sell books, magazines, comic books, music, movies, and lots of assorted stuff. It's really worth the trip, if you're in the area and interested in Asian food or culture.

Neehai,

You're not talking about that diner over in Arlington, are you? The one right off South Courthouse Road, about a mile from the Pentagon.

I can't remember the name of the place. It ROCKS. (If you're getting uneven quality in your servings, I have to say that's a post-Yoshi regional development.)

Nah this is a little place in DC in Adams Morgan.

I never travel to Virginia. That place scares me.
