Ha ha. This is what passes as controversy in SL now? It must be a slow news day.  In a way I'm quite tickled because I love that biological analogy I crafted. I think it really shows the difference between the two projects, while also providing me with an opportunity to add a Wikipedia link to my post (my calling card).  From: someone In biology this is what's known as parallel evolution. Two or more organisms not closely related independently acquire similar characteristics, while evolving in the same ecosystem. Because we share the same ecosystem (rules and financial requirements supplied by LL), it is inevitable that we have made similar adaptations to that ecosystem. Still, we are very different organisms. We are a nonprofit collective organized from the bottom up with the goal of sharing power among all citizens by means of a true government, we are focused on collaborations and community, and selling land for us is secondary. Anshe on the other hand is working from the top down as the only source of power, creating themed regions as a method to rent and sell large tracts of land for a profit. To complete my biological analogy, while a bird and a bat do have similar phenotypes, their genotypes are quite different. (Anshe is the bat.)  I like to end overly complex posts with a little humor. In this case, assigning an animal to Anshe plus a smiley seemed natural. I debated for a bit whether or not to assign her the bat, as frankly bats are cool. In the end it was the unstated blood-sucking of the bat which made the decision for me. I did delete Bubba Anansi insipid follow-on post in our forums for not just the reasons that were mentioned by insightful posters above but also because Bubba is Anshe's alt. (You all knew that right?) But wait! It get's more interesting. Prior to starting this thread, Anshe reported my "bat post". However, because I'm one of the moderators of our group forum, the complaint went to me. Once I realized that I had called our delicate flower a bat, deleted a post from her alt, and received a complaint from her, I knew it was only a matter of time before the "boo hoo" post showed up in the forum. So I double checked my science (actually changing convergent evolution to parallel evolution), brushed my hair, and waited. So here we are. Am I guilty of professing freedom of speech while being a censor? Do I uphold democracy while acting as a tyrant? Am I in fact Hitler? Sure. But Anshe is a bat so it all works out in the end. (There's that smiley again.) ~Ulrika~
