Roman Sandwich

Grilled Italian Sausage links, mild or spicy, drizzled with marinara sauce, sprinkled with fresh parmesan and/or mozzerella cheese and a dash of oregano, on a crusty sub roll.

This is my nomination for best sandwich. The olive salad MUST be authentic, or it just doesn't taste the same..........

New Orleans original Muffuletta with layers of imported ham, provolone cheese, salami, and the original Progress Grocery olive salad on a seeded muffuletta bread.

Is it the same as a Gyro.....(pronounced like hero with spit in your mouth, not Gyro like a gyrocopter)?

Basically, yeah. Only the Shawarma variety usually uses Tahini (which is sesame-based) rather than Tzatziki (which is garlic based).

Classic grilled cheese for me, toasted in a sandwich maker so it's pressed flat. I have simple tastes :)

Go to the Carnegie Deli in Manhattan and order a Rubin and you will never be the same. MMMMM... I can taste it now.

If there are 2 of you and one is not a really really big eater, split one. They are huge!

Cheesecake for desert is excellent there too! ;)

... Carnegie Deli?

I don't think the "Carnage Deli" is known for their sammiches, but their meats are probably excellent.

PS - olives are icky.

I see that Progress Grocery will ship 2 of these guys (which makes 8 sandwiches, as they're cut in fourths), for $66, including the overnight shipping.

If I find 7 other people, we could get em for $8.25 each. Worth it, yeah?

Yes, I spelled it wrong. You can buy meats there too directly from the deli (try the hard salami) but it is a very cool restaurant. I would not agree that it is not known for their sammiches. Go try one and I guarantee you will agree! :)

1. Minimal Sandwich: Havarti and Roast beef between to fresh slices of sourdough, heated in a microwave for about 45 seconds.

2. Hot and Spicy: Fry some lean ground beef, add a liberal amount of taco seasoning, Take a hoagie or sub style sandwich roll, and fill it with thick slices of pepperjack cheese and the taco meat mix. Heat in microwave for about a minute, till the cheese is all melted and the grease from the taco meat is soaking into the bun. It is sooo yummy! I usually make about 6 of these at a time, wrap them in platic wrap, and refrigerate them. That way, you can grab one and toss it in the microwave for a fast, hot snack.

3. Fresh and Flavorful: Bagel, cream cheese, turkey, cucumber slices, cheddar cheese. Nuff said.

4. Fishy and Fun: Tuna sandwich (using miracle whip and dill relish), on lightly buttered wheat bread, with lettace and crunched up BBQ potato chips on top of the tuna.

5. Meat and Cheese: Hunks of Crock Pot roast beef, thick slabs of sharp cheddar cheese, stuck between two slices of freshly baked bread.

6. The True Delight: Two naked, slightly drunken women, looking at you with sly little smiles and asking, "Want a sandwich?".

My favourite sandwich has to be built in the exact order shown here:

Toasted sourdough slice
Miracle whip (not mayo)
Alfalpha sprouts
Vine-ripened tomatoes
Sliced havarti
Smoked chicken
Seedy dijon mustard
Toasted sourdough slice

Simple... yummy. :)

Where I gre up, there was this place called Al's. It was a little house that had been converted to a grocery store. The owner (Al) used to cook meals on demand in the small kitchen in back. He made the best burger I have ever had in my life. Nothing else even cones close.

Al's burgers weighed a full pound. They were charred, greasy, sloppy, and oh so good. I've never had anything like it before or since. I don't know what he put in there, but it was fantastic. I would have to say a hamburger made by Al of Al's groceries in Manville, NJ is the best sandwich in the world (if he's still there, that is. It's been 15 years or so.)

Beyond that, I'm always a sucker for a good chicken finger sub. Sadly though, you folks who don't live in Buffalo haven't the slightest clue how to make them properly (just like you don't know how to make wings right) so I can guarantee you you have no idea what I'm talking about if you're not from here. Tons of hot sauce, load up the blue cheese, lettuce, onions, whatever else you can find from the garden, life doesn't get much better.

Manville NJ? I am going to have to investigate this. Will report back within the week with my findings.

After consulting in-game with Chosen Few, I tried and successfully created this at home, with only three fires and a mild explosion. It was fantastic, so much so that after two last night, I can't wait to go home for lunch today to make a third.

Thanks, Chosen!

Green Eggs & Ham

Smash together 1 hard boiled egg and 1/2 ripe avacado & apply to toasted bread. Add slice of ham (more if you're using the fake stuff) Yum
