Yes, 1.2 will bring changes. Let me mention some 1.2 facts that might get lost in the excitement:
- Developer Incentives. Yes, Linden Lab pays YOU. I know that this is a strange concept, so let me be clear. The creators and operators of the best experiences, content and services in Second Life WILL GET REAL US DOLLARS. The first $1000 is going out this week. We recognize the time and effort that goes in to making Second Life the unique world it is.
- Most of you will be able to pay less than your currently monthly bill for what you currently have. That's right, less US$ per month than you are paying now. Nearly all the rest of you will pay the same.
- Parcel-based allocation of objects makes for a better world. No more will a single user decide to lock others out of a sim by object banking. We are currently scanning the world to determine the right parcel allocations on a sim by sim basis to minimize the changes that you will have to make.
- You still receive a stipend. Even users who choose the one-time sign up fee will get a stipend if they use Second Life that week. This makes it even easier for you to bring your friends in to Second Life to visit events and special parties.
- There.com asks its users to spend US$ to buy Therebucks. Second Life users will convert L$ into US$, first chances to buy land, and more.
- We are not reseting the world.
Please keep asking questions and reading through the email. There are a lot of changes and we've been working hard to make sure they are the best changes for you and for Second Life.

Yes, changes.
Big changes.
Bad changes.
Fuck the developer bonus. I don't want it. I won't take it if it's offered to me.
Monetizing Second Life like this will wreck the community that's built up.
I would rather be poor and among friends, than rich and alone.

This is a hell of a lot of change all at once. I am wondering how this wierd $$$ business is going to work with group-owned land. There are people who hold land for a group (I know one of them) without deeding the land, so they can take the burden on themselves. Are these people going to suddenly get a $75/month bill out of the blue? I hope you're ready to call all the people who will be seeing a price hike.
Also, the way this is phrased makes it seem like people are going to be limited to a single parcel of land. I must be crazy, that can't possibly be right. You'd have to evict people to make that happen.
Oh yeah. What happens to the beta discount?
I do find myself bristling at these prospects, but I think it could make for a better experience once everything settles down. It's the "settling down" that I wonder about most of all.

Okay, I am so in the minority on this I know - although I think that will change. But I am thrilled with the changes and immediately ran and turned my SL subscription back on so that I could reopen the Bhodi Tree Gallery right away!
WOW WOW WOW.
It's going to be different. It's going to be difficult at first. It may even be a disaster in the long run - but no one has ever tried it and it will sure be interesting to see what happens!
THIS should generate some press, Lindens!

Bhodi, you aren't in the minority; there are a lot of people who were frustrated at seeing other players sitting on prim banks and whole sims worth of land like dogs in a manger. I think that when most people realize that this new setup will be a fair chance for everyone - casual new player and senior resident alike - they will see just what an innovative and bold idea it is. When news gets out we are going to see a huge influx of curious new people. If nothing else, we can all laugh at the crappy day that the THERE developers will be having today, cause this really smacks them in a big way. From now on all of the big online games are going to have to be a lot more nearly as responsive to the needs and desires of their subscribers as the guys at Linden Lab are and always have been. From: someone Originally posted by Teeny Leviathan I know what we're getting. I got this from a reliable source, namely the crazy homeless guy who sneaks into the building where I work. Every SL resident will receive:
1 million Lindenbucks
A fridge with a padlock
Bigger pectoral muscles But no free land for all?? Could be your source is confused?
