I can't make a list because there are too many and I know I'd forget someone. Since the first week I got here I've felt priveledged to be part of a community with so many incredibly talented, smart, fun people. I find it very humbling in the best of ways.

Hero is a funny word. Too big for me to use, especially being such a new player.
But I think I can list a few people I ADMIRE. This won't by any means be a complete list!!! Remember that. But it will be those who come to mind immediately (and whose names I can remember, lol). Strong caveat: Remember, none of these people is perfect, of course, and I don't agree with everything any of them has ever said or done. You can admire people overall without always agreeing with them, and even while thinking some of the things they say or do are completely wrong, lol. 1. Prok - for the reasons listed in other posts above, and many more. 2. Amy - for her unfailing cheerfulness and attempts to be fair and kind, and for being cute. (And making cute clothes.) She will just get better with age. 3. Jake Reitfeld - for being a reasonable and fair-minded voice. 4. Shagz Anubis - for being a gifted artist, and unfailingly kind. 5. Jillian - for her most adorable AV! 6. Trimming Hedges - for his talent and hard work putting on Captions, and for being an overall good guy. Not to mention smart and witty. 7. SexyEyes Valentyia - for putting on the best Bingo available, for being a fabulous hostess, and a very kind person. She really does enjoy making others happy. 8. The people who put on the TouchStone Fair - especially the guy I spoke with personally, whatever his name was (Jess something, I think - Jase Byrne, I think that was it.). Him, for being such a nice person, and all of them, for a TOTALLY FABULOUS PRODUCTION. 9. Branduff Kojima, for being a wonderful, steady, and loyal friend. 10. And of course, the Lindens, for being visionaries in general, and for being accessible, and always respectful to the players, encouraging player input, and willing to take what the players need and want into account. 11. Pituca Chang - for being a well-rounded, fun, and pleasant member, and for offering Jeopardy, which is apparently just one of her contributions to the SL community. (Sorry for coming back so much later to put this in, but I couldn't remember her name and just now saw it in another post.) I reserve the right to come back and add to this, as I remember more. coco |

Ezhar Fairlight and Casval Epoch -- For making me look social and kind in comparison.
Doug Linden -- For not touching his av appearance since Beta. Robin Linden -- For not publically executing people on the forums, yet. The Remainder of the Linden Staff -- For showing there is no limit to what you can do with duct tape. The Midnight Crew -- For becoming such an interesting myth _____________________

In a body without a heart I'm missing every part -- Progress -- Catherine Omega: Yes, but lots of stuff isn't listed. "Making UI harder to use than ever" and "removing all the necessary status icons" things.... there's nothing like that in the release notes. ![]() |

Pecan Pie - For always being there as a last option when none of the others fit.
Shiny - Always reflecting on the day, never judging, and ever suttle in a matte finish. The landscape is vastly enhanced in its presence. Mule - Being that star that you just can't reach and will probably never get, but yet gives you something to aim and hope for. _____________________

hehe you're not a bitch! a hero has certain rights and responsibilities, you can't stick up for the little guy/ be sweet and nice or whatever the criteria is and then turn around and do the opposite the next day, a hero is either consistant in their stance or not a hero after all... I doubt Prok is all of a sudden going to just buy dresses and dance and let things slide no matter how many bullets and arrows he takes... Since you that quote was in reference to me in a way (as you were quoting Eboni), I will reply. You can certainly define who your own heroes are. I will just remind you of something that was said by John Kerry during the presidential debates - you can be certain about something, and stay the course, and be wrong. Yes, there is honor in not backing down - but it depends upon whether you are fighting the good fight or just fighting to fight. There are some good fights to be fought in life, both first and second, and then there is choosing your battles. Unfortunately, everything is a battle these days because of the singlemindedness that you seem to find heroic. Your mileage may vary, but a racist can be consistently a racist - consistency is not the mark of hero, nor is unwillingness to compromise, change, and learn. _____________________

On my origional list you were on there because of your personality, generosity and what you've done to make SL better, I appreciate what you do and it sucks to feel that I'm somehow misguided or a jerk for putting Prok on a pedistal, he hasn't been anything but helpfull and polite to me and if he is a two-faced monster I haven't seen the other face. I hope we can all get along and advance SL together rather than devolving into separate groups and be at odds. _____________________

oh man, just because Prok fit's my definition of a hero doesn't mean he's not flawed or cooler than other people, and I sure as hell don't agree with all his points, but I do know he has made an effort to address the issue of griefers and such and he doesn't back down which makes him a hero in my book. Obviously being pretty new I don't know the whole story but I do know there is a long history of animosity here, I'm sorry if I'm now guilty by association but I'm not going to change my opinion unless it is changed by Prok himself. Daz, You were speaking about single-mindedness and dedication to something, and I was just saying that is admirable, as opposed to changing course or giving in. I was saying it depends upon what one is single minded about. Yes, I do think Prokofy has raised important issues that others have raised as well before him - he did not invent fighting against lag, griefing, ugly builds, etc. He has an interesting voice in it all, part of a collective voice we all have. I respect your choice of Prokofy as hero, as I said, to each their own. All of us are a combination of often times contradictory qualities, and Prokofy is no different. I won't say anything else about it - I was just pushing back against your statement a bit, not your choice. _____________________

Be that as it may, this isn't supposed to be about "why I don't like your guy."
Which then devolves into a discussion of said guy. Which is exactly what everyone is always complaining about. coco |

I feel compelled to add some newer, slightly more obscure names:
OmegaX Zapata--For his support of teaching/learning within SL John Prototype--Incredible work using SL theraputically Genna Banjo--She is fairly new, but watch her go Rhiannon Chatnoir--For her unflagging support of the arts in SL Astrin Few--That man rocks!! Mae Best--She wields the madness that is "Knot Another Quiz" Every person who has helped me out (Feniks Stone, Waterfallzz Extraordanire, Fielding Codesmith, Travis Lambert). You might not recall, but I do. ![]() Oooh, oooh. And Sulla Milk--cause he is just so darned cute! |
