Sl is exactly the same, its a 'luxury good', from an economists perspecive and we pay for it. personally since this stupid $8 million investment has come along the only progress we have is the new teen grid which sint up yet and which will get a hell of a lot more support than ours will.

To put your analogy in perspective, think how television service was like 2 years after television was invented. Why would people back then pay for a brand new television set only to have to wiggle the rabbit ears all night in hopes of making the black and white image less fuzzy? The answer is, it was worth it. I still think SL is worth it despite downtime during the holiday season.
Linden Labs are pioneering new technological ground, and we as users are pioneering new social ground right along with them. This is where I want to be! Someday these kinds of virtual worlds will become AOL-ized. There will be nothing left to be discovered, argued over, researched, or innovated. Every yokle that can type "A/S/L? RU HOT?" will have a service agreement that promises near 100% uptime. But by then Linden Labs and their users will be off pioneering some new unstable technology and I will be right there with them.
