Focus On Removal in 1.1

Ok, as enamoured as I am with 1.1 (and believe me I am), one thing I am dismayed by is the removal of Focus On as an option on the pie menu. I use it far more frequently than reaching for the keyboard. I know I can press ALT, but why was this removed? It seems the more options, the better - not less.

PS - yes I know I mentioned this in the 1.1 preview thread - I didn't want it to get lost amongst all those posts.

This never got any response so I thought I would make it rise to the top again - I have heard many people so far in SL ask the same question - why was Focus On removed as an option - not everyone is comfortable with the alt-key focus fuctionality.

I never used "focus on". It caused me to send a "working on" beam from my hand to whatever I was focusing on. It was frequently a distraction at events. I always just alt focus on things.

I never used it either -- maybe they can make it an option to have? :)

I also never used it, but I second the option to have it anyway.

Not only am i dismayed to see it gone from the pie menu, but even more disconcerting Take is put into the same position. So now when i attempt to focus on something, i end up taking it. Argh!

It was removed from the pie menu because we ended up running out of slots . . . downside of raidal menus, limited number of options.

I never used it. I'm so addicted to the keyboard shortcut that I try and do it in other programs.

aw so sad, I used it all the time. You only needed one hand to focus. Now I have to sit up and take my head out of my hand and use that hand to hit the alt key...

Actually, Fen, if you are careful you can smack the alt key with your head, leaving your hand free.

I don't get it...

What do you people do with your feet? Just use your big toe on either your left or right foot to hit the alt button, that should be just fine. It's not like your feet do much when you're sitting down to use your computer, might as well put them to use!

:D

PS: I always used the alt key, but as a funny aside, I think Linden Labs should make it so that if you hold a certain hot-key, you can get the old-style pie menus. *Waits to see how many people don't get it*

I also miss "focus on" , seemed to make textures bake faster. But then again maybe it was just because it took a microsecond to focus on which took my attn away from the wait. :p

Alt-zoom is addictive; I use it in every other program I'm in. Try alt-zooming in Visual Basic, and see what your co-workers say to you afterwards :-p

If you have a logitech mouse with any extra buttons the latest drivers from logitech lets you program those extrea buttons to any key stroke - I just set my thumb button up as Alt and it works great!

If you don't have a logitech mouse .... go get one. They are definatly the best mice.

I am often petting the kitty with my feet, otherwise I am most times crossed legged in the chair. I can see hitting the alt key with my head, but gawd, all that engery to lift it back up again... not sure I manage that.

LOL Cory and Dave! :D

Seriously though, this was a feature I always used as well. I found that I could focus faster and more accuratly in exactly on the spot I was aiming. With the Alt key and mouse focus, I feel like I did when learning to fly and walk (both of which I still often have trouble with :p ). I just don't feel like I'm as much in control with the new way of focusing. I'm sure others though feel they do have more control. I don't like it, but that is just my opinion. =)

Has anyone ever tried Camera Controls? Its under the View menu. I do all my panning and zooming mouse only. It always seemed easier to me. Its been there since beta.

I understand, but in its place, the useless and duplicated Touch option was added - we can already touch using the left mouse button, the whole point of making the left mouse button for touching. Focus On could easily be put back where Touch is now.

Ahhhh noooo hehe a new feature was added Cristiano to be able to rename that button. Which allows for a smoother integration of objects into the interface. I personally would prefer for it to trigger its own event (like touch_menu()) instead of the generic touch events. That could really improve the way we interact with some things.

LOL -- I was playing a round of Planescape Torment this weekend and kept going insane trying to swing the map around so I could see the loot behind buildings, or alt-zoom in to get a detail closeup. O_o

ended up having to almost literally sit on my left hand (Torment's a mouse-based game so you don't really need anything except the space bar for pausing it). >_<

I kinda like the Touch option in the pie menu. Now I can test touch events and stay in edit mode. Before it was.. go out of edit mode, touch, see what happens, then go back into edit mode.

I used to use the camera controls a lot too until I found out you can rotate with camera with ctrl-alt and pan with ctrl-alt-shift.
Actually I hardly ever use pan, but these day I do find myself using alt-click to zoon and then immediately hold ctrl-alt to rotate around the thing im focusing on.
