More excellent points, Tread. I want to give you the opportunity to expand on your own statement:

From: Tread Whiplash

You make some good points, but I'd have to see more "insider" information before passing judgement on how good/bad the different parts of these changes are...

And we all need a crystal ball, if we want to claim what affect this is going to have on the "wealth gap" or the various economic minutae that some people are debating. :-)

So, if we need more insider information, and we can't possibly see what effect this will really have on the economy, how do you think that fits with having 2 days to test this, and virtually no community discussion of it before the feature is implemented? :)

It'd be interesting to see who actually "left" when 1.2 was introduced. I'm sure that the number of threats far exceeded the actual exodus.
.

This is what gives me pause Michi - when 1.2 was announced, I looked over the entire list of what was being done and I thought the writing was on the wall for me.

I couldn't have been further from the truth - 1.2 was the *best* thing to happen to me in SL overall... but when it was announced, and how it was announced - and when I was told it would benefit people like myself - I couldn't see that.

So I sit, and I wait, and I watch.

Siggy.

What I find hilarous is that LL has just given everyone what they asked for on the forums for the last several months. It was the same with 1.2.

People really have to be careful of what they wish for :P I'm a genie, I know these things.

An upopular opinion I'm sure I'm about to give again, but back in the day I even proposed that *no* money be given to event hosters at all. The exception being Mentors and Instructors being given money to give away at events they host under the "Mentor and/or Instructor Guidelines" only. My reasoning being that you would then start to see more creative events hosted by those who really wanted to host events and not do it just for the money involved. It may also encourage some to start charging for events. I know I would certainly pay to attend certain events if I felt the quality was going to be worth it. I'm certain I cannot be totally alone in this train of thought.

I have not listed an event as Linden supported for over 8 months even if there was a contest involved, and even when I still gave out money at the event for one reason or another. I stopped when I did two different events (within two weeks of each other) that qualified but that I never did get my payment for. I sent the necessary info a few times, then just chalked it up to the Lindens being swamped and not able to get the "payback" to me. It got to be a chore and the money was not the reason I was hosting the events in the first place. So I just stopped asking for assistance. It hasn't kept me from doing events thus far, and I can't see that changing for me anytime in the future.

As for prices on goods sold, I have always sold items at a lower price than most of my "competitors". I charge what I feel my items are worth, or rather what I myself would be willing to pay for them. I am not opposed to people charging more for their items at all. I think variety in prices and quality of items is a great thing for the economy and the consumer. The more the Lindens leave us (the residents and business owners of SL) to our own methods for raising money, determining prices, etc. The more realistic our economy will be.

Those are my thoughts at least. :)

You are spot on with that Siggy. It intrigues me that something similar occurred with 1.2 as I wasn't here yet to see it. History repeats itself in an environment of controlled chaos :)

There always seems to be alot of concern over the value of the linden. I always thought it was a handful of people who made their real income from SL, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe there are far more than I thought who do.

I think it's a vocal few who do, and a few more who'd like to -- preferably without actually doing anything..

For me though - the L$ isn't really worth very much at all... Being a flat broke newb in 1.0 taught me everything I needed to know to make just about anything I could want in SL.

What money I get every month I either buy some more land for my wifes stores or put it on GOM at a fast rate - pay my cable bill, get a few beers and a pack of smokes.

A game that pays for itself is a bit of a bonus for me - but I don't spend more on SL than I have budgeted for anyways.. Thats just nice lil bonus at the end of the month.

If the L$ dissapeared tomorrow I'd still be here, still doing stupid things.. still havin fun.

Siggy.

1) you will no longer see 6 dozen "BEST PANTS CONTESTS" at Club Supermega. You'll see maybe 4 now. Big improvement.

Wrong, there will be NO clubs No events Nothing thanks to the Vocal Minority

From: someone

2) The inefficient, non-popular clubs will shut down. Finally. 103 clubs will compress into maybe 2 dozen.

No they will ALL shut down, thanks to the Vocal Minority

From: someone

3) The money grubbers, the greedy bastards, the scammers, and the linden-dollar-whores will leave this game for greener pastures, like There or TSO. So you won't get suckered into buying a $L30,000 casino slot machine.
No, everyone will leave the game thanks to the Vocal Minority

From: someone

4) Things will cost less in-world, if the vendors know what's good for them.

No, there will be nothing to buy because people like me will go out of business, thanks to the Vocal Minority

From: someone

5) People will be less money-conscious in general, like it was pre- 1.2.

No, there will be no one left, because of the Vocal Minority.

From: someone

6) This is temporary. LLabs might increase stipends if deflation happens too much.

No, the Vocal Minority will not let it be temporary.

From: someone

7) Shops and services will make LESS. People will save more. The "elites will rule the world now" argument is bullshit. How are the old folks supposed to make money if no one has it/ spends it?
No its not. Thanks to the Vocal Minority, all businesses have no reason to stay open now.

From: someone

8) You will be forced to actually be civil to each other instead of seeing dollar signs every time an avatar walks by.
No, there will be no one to be civil to, thanks to the Vocal Minority
From: someone

9) Events that are actually fun might pop up again (no more "SHAKE YOUR BOOTAH FOR DEH LINDENZ" contests every 15 minutes.)
There will be no events, thanks to the vocal minority

From: someone

10) People might actually smile more often.

Calm the hell down.

LF

All up and down the forums for months there have been rants left right and center about neg ratings - ratings in general - event postings - the value of the L$.

To tell the truth it was a strange echo of the similar posts about prim banking, tax evasion, land circles.

Folks bust their chops and say 'they don't listen!' and when they listen, read, then act they get their chops busted anyways!

I'm gonna sit and wait and see if the sky ACTUALLY falls before screaming and running in circles.

And I don't think *everyone* will leave the game either... I for one will stay because none of the changes impact on what SL does for me.

So thats 1 person still here - and that blows out 'everybody'.

Siggy.

let me tell you what it's all about,
it's called money dependence today,
and people just keep on going on
looking at the dollar bill,
and nothing else around them.
no love, no friendship, nothing else,
just the dollar bill coming on into their pocket,
into their bank account,
and that's too much of heaven
bringing them underground.

Agreed. I'm so glad I'm stuck at my parent's house on dialup right now. If this is the biggest issue going in some people's lives I pity them.

Lecktor,

<<Does anyone else find it extremely hilarious that someone who made such a dramatic exit recently, (again) is in here screaming ??>>

No. But what I find extremely sad is that the someone cannot make a single posting in these forums without attracting at least one vicious jab like this one. :(
