Nolan, I assume that in your little preachy bit at the start, where you refer to ' these two'
who 'would've still found a way to turn it into a US bashing fest' and 'it is no secret that both harbor animosity toward the US', you're talking about me, right? Because that's so far from the truth that I don't actually recognise myself in the statement, but looking back, I can't see who else you could be picking on. |

I did a search recently on Meetup.com and noticed that there are relatively few SL meetups. It'd be really interesting to see this get more use. . . .

Oooh! Iceland! Always wanted to go there! I want to go to Iceland precisely because I know absolutely nothing about it apart from the fact that Bjork and Sigur Ros hail from there. I always get this weird Tokyo/Swedish vibe from it. *walks off scratching head* _____________________

I am in Alabama.
I think it would be a great idea to have a centrally located meetup. Might have to have several. Say a huge one in the US, another huge one in England, one in Canada, and so forth. Those could be a once a year fest, maybe have a regional one too. We have thought about Texas. I will gladly help organize and get things ready. _____________________

Gather round my pretties and I'll tell you a story...
Have you heard the story of the lost adventurer? Some say he died. Some say he was lost at sea... But I'll tell you the truth! He sailed away, for a year and a day, straight from Virginia waters... He faced rough seas, ugly creatures of the depths, mutiny on his ship... And then he saw it! The end of the world? No! Twas England! Turns out there ARE more countries in the world than the USA! |

Because that's so far from the truth that I don't actually recognise myself in the statement, but looking back, I can't see who else you could be picking on. ah look. another merkin who doesnt know there's a world outside the good old US. Codi, to clarify what I said to you last night when you pointed out the "irony" in my statement, "I also note that there are no other nationalities in here calling people twats or morons... ", I was simply making an observation. I should have been more clear. There has been a rash of this type of rhetoric recently, threads have been edited or closed because of it, so apparently I am not the only one noticing. I was simply wondering why the recent American bashing seems to be limited to 3 or 4 Brits, it was in no way meant as an indictment of all Brits. I didn't see any Canadians, Germans, Aussies or anyone else champing at the bit to jump all over Walker. I think I was pretty clear in my first, third and fourth posts about whom I was specifically talking. Walker, I am sorry for helping derail your thread. I think your attempt to collect info for a SLCON like Nogard and other have suggested is great. As someone else said, maybe a fresh thread would help. Not suprisingly, it does appear that the West Coast and East Coast are clearly leading. Maybe that means it should be in the middle of the country? LOL. How convenient for me that would be, since I live in the upper midwest? (kidding)_____________________

I am sorry Kris, but that statement indicates a resentment. There have been others in recent history, I am not going to bother to do a search on it though and just let it end here. It's not worth it. No, it does not indicate a resentment. It indicates a sarcastic comment based upon stereotypical views. That is not racist, and I resent your calling me one more than you could know. Which does mean you were right about one thing... I do care sometimes what people think. I think enough of what you think of me to put you on mute, ignore, ban and delete your calling card. Because you're right. Let's end it here - you're not worth it. Buhbai. |

Did I not already state that Austin is the center of the known universe? It's the perfect and quirky little hillbilly venue for our motley SL crew. ![]() Hmmmm, I love Austin. (I used to live in west TX so I am biased a bit.SXSW is awesome and I have attended twice now. The last time we went, we actually bumped into David Byrne of the Talking Heads at a bratwurst stand. We chatted for a bit until an over adoring drunken fan started hugging on him and doing the old "I love you man" routine. Byrne left without buying a bratwurst, hehehe. I prolly would've too. I am such a tourist. I have my Sixth Street t-shirt , I only wear it every so often so I don't wear it out! I wish the city I lived in had have as many festivals as Austin does, not to mention the sense of community. _____________________

Because you're right. Let's end it here - you're not worth it. Buhbai. I expected nothing less. I also could care less. Oh please, ban me from somewhere I haven't been in six months. The level of pain is unbearable. Why do you think I haven't come around? It couldn't have anything to do with the statements about not giving a fuck about anyone else and other similar sentiments could it? You can mince words all you like, nationalistic stereotypes and etnocentrism are inextricably intertwined. Sorry. You cannot seperate the two unless the stereotyping is done internally, towards a group within one's own country. Jesus, it isn't a LL sponsored event. It may or may not even happen. It isn't a crime to omit people from one's poll, especially when that person apologized and changed their post. Other regional get togethers have been organized before, maybe we should have jumped all over those people as well. The fact that it was just some private citizen's poll, makes me wonder why anyone would think that nationalistic chest thumping and brow beating were in order amazes me. Pretty amazing coming from someone who supposedly doesn't "give a fuck" about what others think. *My best David Spade "Buh-Bye"* from a 'merkin who has the balls to call harpies out who want to posture and play some nationalistic, disaffected curmudgeon game. Sometimes we have to say sayonara. "Last edited by Kris Ritter : Today at 03:23 PM.
