I want to start a new category on the SL history wiki, but I'm having some dificulty choosing the right word for it. I'm not a native English speaker, you know Should I call it, "Epochs", "Eras", "Periods"? Or maybe "Timeline"? No, that sounds like I want to categorize it by month or day or something. I dont know. I want to put up material divided into subcategories like these: Pre-alpha, Alpha, Beta, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, etc... Will Oz Spade or whoever runs the SL historical society please make us a group forum? Thank you.

Thank you. You could use all of those words Eggy. But I think of Epoch as a really long Period of time. The whole thing could be the SL Epoch, divided into Eras - Pre-1.0, 1.0-2.0, 2.0+, and then those Eras divided into Periods - Pre-1.0 divided into Pre-alpha, Alpha, etc.

Heh, I just came across this post...
Any of those would work.
And I'll look into a group forum here soon when I'm coherent enough.

SL Timeline, SL Eras, or SL Chronology would all be good choices.

or
Second Life Eras I like Eras of Second Life. or Sleras? p.s. Time in Second Life is so compressed. Builds and trends seems to rise and fall, come and go much more quickly that in real life. Perhaps using terms like "era," "epoch," and "age" is a bit misleading since we are only talking about months really in regards to each of these periods. Even "days" are only four hours long here. Perhaps Second Life needs it's own measurement of time. Eggy, for your temporal classification, I propose "slera." Meaning "Second Life era."

I like AGES call it AoS... Age of SimologyJust like human beings have "The Bronze Age", avatars could have "The Shiny Age" ha ha ha. That's just an example of how it could work, joking on that one but you get the idea. Here's another tie-in: Neal Stephenson, who inspired this "metaverse" with Snow Crash, also has a book called The Diamond Age.

From: Khamon Fate "times of our second life"
is that not geeky enough? Make a punky song outta it... with verses like these: These were the times of our Second Life, I remember them so well All the fond metaverse memories And when the forums went to hell!
Of prims evolving and new kinds of trees And bug fixes, and snow for skis And when ratings were improooved . . .
*brass swell not unlike a Sgt. Pepper 2004*
There are the times... of our
SECOND LIFE! SECOND LIFE! SECOND LIFE! SECOND LIFE!
*insert thrashy virtuostic guitar solo here*

The Times Of Your Second Life
10-19-2004 14:09
Good morning yesterday You wake up, and time has slipped away And suddenly it's hard to find The prims you set out all in line
Remember... Do you remember...
The prim wars and the taxes? No guns in Darkwood, just metal swords and axes. Lindenworld was all the rage No escort yet danced in a cage
Remember... Do you remember the times of your (Second) life?

Hey. Eggy. While you're messing with the wiki... could you make a webpage that lists ALL entries? It'd be a lot better if we could see everything on the wiki, rather than pre-determined categories.

LF That's kind of like asking for the folks at wikipedia to list all of the 300000 entries on one page. But if you hit search without any text it will do that

There was a time before Shiny! And a time before Particles!
Edit: Well Particles as we know them, there were llCreateSmoke and llCreateFire, or was it just llSmoke and llFire, anyway, but yeah.

Yes and Yes you do! Shiny is wonderfull and as much as I try to forget a time before it, it did exist!
Once way back in the land of Second Life there was a time when all prims were restricted to being dull and shinyless. Oh the pain builders felt at trying to make prims appear to be chrome or other visual effects that textures just could not pull off!
Then one day around 1.1-1.2 the Linden Lords bestowed on the user base the great and magnificiant Shiny! Joy and chrome prims were heard around the world!
