LL needs to run testimonials like this in their full-page ads. Show a big happy picture of you, nursing a baby while riding a unicorn.

Ah the hubris of youth.... to be so knowledgeable and condescending all in two simple sentences.

...and we see by your example that you can do condescending in just one

You beat me to it.

That wins my 2004 "Pot, Kettle" gold award. It also comes in second in the "Dismissing yourself while attempting to dismiss someone else" race, garning a nice silver cup in that.

snip....

And you also seem to be making a routine error of youth... that of overlooking and overreaching...... consider the meaning of curmudgeon ..... my post speaks for itself... yours speaks volumes about your requirement for being a "me too'er".

When taken out of context, which you constantly do with my words Korg, then yes that statement could seem condesending. Howerver, Cat knows me. Her and I have been around the block a time or two. She knows I respect her and consider her an asset to the community. It was her my message was intended for, and I'm sure she took it the way I meant it. If Cat has an issue with me, she will tell me. She is a *very* strong person. No need for you to step in and try to bait a fight. :)

Funny how everyone that disagrees with you is young ...not knowledgable...or a me too'er.

Perhaps the problem isn't other people

To me, SL is a creative 3D world, where I can build kewl "thingies". If people want to pay me for these kewl "thingies" so that they can have "thingies" too, and I can cover my costs to LL in the process, then so much the better.

SL is.

You can't point to SL and say, "It is this", or "It is that", anymore than you can point to the internet and say "It is this" or "It is that". SL is a medium. It can be used for free expression, socialization, buisness, recreation, education, information, or whatever else you can think of. Or any combination of all of the above.

It just is.

Any attempt to claim that SL is one thing or another is self delusion, at this point.

What it is to you, or me, or anyone else, however, is up for discussion.

To me its a creative 3d environment - I don't, however, expect others 'players' to feel the same way. Its everyone's world...like RL. By the way, RL is also a creative environment for me. I make money in it - welll because I have to. :p

Billions of years ago, when primitive cells were struggling with simple chemical signals to communicate, they were laying the foundation of multi-celled organisms.

Imagine a poll, among these simple creatures, on the perceived value of inter-cellular communication. Artistic endeavor? Better chances of surviving? Sure, if by "artistic endeavor" they meant the Cistine Chapel; or by "better chances of surviving", taking life to other planets.

But they probably wouldn't have been thinking along these lines when they voted.

In fact -- wait -- they weren't thinking at all, were they?

Second Life is like that.

To me, Second Life is all that and a bag of chips. It might as well be some spiritual retreat for me to get hypercathartic, now that I think about it. On the rainbow, we have yellow and orange. But we can have a blend between those two. And other colors, whee! Not to mention all the fancy fadershadering. And oh, don't forget shiny.

If you wanna make a buck here, try your hand at it -- it's expanding. You wanna get creative for non-profit? Sure *stares at certain people*. And hey, you wanna do both, and more, goodie goodie gumdrops. You may do something that reflects your direct line of work IRL (especially if you're a computer programmer, hehehe). You may not. You may mix and match like some sort of DIGITAL LEGOS! MUHAHAHAHA.... but eh, as long as you're enjoying your Second Life, it's all good.

Sometimes, there are no words.

Just a smile on your face.

SL is what you make of it. Just like in RL.

Some went to college to get an education so they could make money.

I went to college to party.

Some are in SL to make money.

I came to party.

Some spend all their time working for money.

I spend most of my time having fun spending my money.

Life is what you make of it.

*starts singing and tap dancing*

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene

(To illustrate his last remark
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they do
Just when everything looked so dark)

Man, they said we better
Accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
No, do not mess with Mister In-Between
Do you hear me, hmm?

(Oh, listen to me children and-a you will hear
About the elininatin' of the negative
And the accent on the positive)
And gather 'round me children if you're willin'
And sit tight while I start reviewin'
The attitude of doin' right

(You've gotta accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between)

You've got to spread joy (up to the maximum)
Bring gloom (down) down to the minimum
Otherwise (otherwise) pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate (well illustrate) my last remark (you got the floor)
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they say (what did they say)
Say when everything looked so dark

Man, they said we better
Accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
No! Don't mess with Mister In-Between

Yeah.. that's pretty much what I mean. In an abstract way that I won't bother you all with explaining.
