"The Huduscker Proxy" - a brilliant Coen brothers film that emulates 1940's American comedies with some wonderfully surreal twists. Jennifer Jason Leigh gives an oustanding performance as a fast-talking tough as nails career girl. It's just pure wondefulness from beginning to end.

"Fargo" - another great Coen brothers flick about a talentless car salesman who decides to try and con his father in law out of a lot of money... and proves that nitwits shouldn't be criminals. It's a dark comedy with very dry humor. People either love it or hate it. I loved it.

"Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" - I'm not a huge anime fan but I love this movie. Beautiful animation and a story that even non-geeks can get into. Great music too.

Any and all films by Terry Gilliam - but especially Brazil, The Fisher King, and 12 Monkeys

"Twelve Angry Men" - Both the original and the Jack Lemmon remake done by Showtime are spectacular.

"Inherit The Wind" - Again both the original and the Showtime remake with Jack Lemmon are amazing. It's about the Scopes trial (the monkey trial).

I saw Lost In Translation and it was very good. I also saw City of God again and I reallly hope this film wins all categories it is nominated for. If you all don't know, this is a film from Brazil that's all in Portugese. Shows the life of a very violent innercity. The story, cinematography, editing, and acting (by tons of children) are all topnotch.
It was released a couple of years ago but it wasn't allowed to be nominated for the major category last year for some reason.

I'd heard so many good things about this movie, and then I saw it... there are no words to describe how awful it was. It's the fingernails on the chalkboard of cinema.

You probably wasn't smoking something. When I saw it, it was like going on ride into another world. The little fleas were cool, the visuals were sweet, and the characters were interesting (like One).

hehe, it was one of my picks when my ex-gf and I used to do movie days. It was interesting to look at but the acting was so over the top. We didn't make it through the whole thing. She just kept looking at me like "I can't believe I'm dating you!" lol

Ones I own and will watch repeatedly - for laughs, fun, mayhem and for background noise while doing stuff :

Spaceballs
(who cannot love 'Dark Helmet'!! and all the silliness)

Down Periscope
(I loved the character Buckman and the whale imitating scene is great)

The Wizard of Oz
(Childhood favorite - just a great fantasy)

The Fifth Element
(It has humor, action, bad aliens, silly aliens, a good plot/storyline, great interwoven scenes - and a good soundtrack. The Diva's singing scene is awesome)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
(great monty python movie)

Jabberwocky
(an even better monty python movie - just watch the traveling potato)

Labyrinth
(for me its a movie to escape into. Plus David Bowie is cool. And it has Muppets!)

The Muppet Movie
(I love muppets.)

Project A-ko
(One of my favorite anime films - Devil Hunter Yoko is good too)

Animal House
(Great college preparation movie)

Earth Girls are Easy
(Silly scifi with Geena Davis)

There are others, but this is what I could think of.

:)

Is that the original or the remake?
Ocean's 12 is coming.

Run Lola Run
Snatch / Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (almost the same movie)
Ferris Buellers Day Off (<--must have to watch on days you are home sick)
LOTR - extended all of em.
The Castle
5th Element
Down Periscope

More recently but perhaps not all-time favorites:
Run Away Jury
Pirates of the Caribean
Bourne Identity

As for passion... no desire to see it. I really am not into heavy gore, I don't have the stomach for it. Saving Private Ryan was too much for me, and what I hear about passion makes me think likewise. I want to enjoy my movies not be grossed out by how realisticly they can show gruesome acts.

My husband and I don't see many movies in the theater these days since we have two small kids and need to get a babysitter (no, we are not one of those utterly annoying people who bring young children to inappropriate movies because we are too cheap to get a babysitter). LOTR and Matrix movies are ones we have seen in the theater in the past six months, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean and Master and Commander.

As for faves I could watch over and over again, two Coen Brothers films, Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski stand out in my mind. Also any of the Monty Python films (Life of Brian, Meaning of Life, Holy Grail), This is Spinal Tap ("This one goes to eleven";), Dr. Strangelove ("They might see the big board!";), Full Metal Jacket, and Pulp Fiction never fail to entertain me.

Movies I would definitely watch again/recommend include:
Being John Malkovich
Snatch/Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Romper Stomper
Trainspotting
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Airheads
Mystery Men
Lone Star
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
El Mariachi
Traffic
Crimes of Passion (get the unrated version and probably don't watch on a first date)

I'm going to be checking out the premiere & afterparty of this collection of shorts called Robot Stories.
http://robotstories.net/
Sounds interesting since it's very very low budget and it's scifi. I'll post a review later :P
