Hi I started SL today.
I have read a lot of your posts on here and figured you will give me an honest answer lol.
I told this guy at a mentoring event who was being an idiot, thate I am 59 and he was really abusive.
Am I too old to play SL? Someone in game said no, but now I'm wondering. Please tell me the truth.
Thanks

Alexa Too old to play SL is approximately just after you die of old age. The person you talked to was an asshat. We have many here. Ignore them. Oh. And Welcome

Welcome to SL Alexa...no your are far from too old. I think we pretty much figured out that the average user is between 27 and 40. There are a lot of users in their 50's and above. There are unfortunately idiots in life and some here and there in our world but I think you'll find the vast majority pf people to be very kind.

Welcome! Second life can be daunting at first to a new person (I'm still new myself), don't let that discourage you...most of the confusion is generated by the shear size and complexity of the world, which later you will come to enjoy very much. I can attest that there are a few unruly types out there, but they are few and vastly outnumbered by the many great folks who are happy to help novices get their feet wet. As for too old, Bah! Perish the thought, if you enjoy online gaming, multiplayer worlds, and making friends online...you are the perfect age to enjoy SL. Have loads of fun, and I hope to see you in the game.

Devlin - wow I hope I can do the same. Xtopherxaos - thanks so much. I can't do any of the things that most people do on here, like building (well apart from a cube lol), but look forward to learning. That's some name you have there - had to copy and paste Alexa

Welcome Alexa! There is no such thing as an upper age for SL and sadly no minimum IQ requirement either, as your abusive friend demonstrates. In fact, I think you are far from being the oldest here. So come in, wipe your feet and pull up a prim. Make yourself comfortable.
Look forward to meeting you inworld.

Welcome Alexa! 43 here. As you will discover, SL society in many ways is much like real life. There are many wonderful, talented, and caring people, but there is always a misfit here and there that will try to ruin your day. My advice to you, ignore them. Over time, you will learn a few ways available to deal with people like that. This is a fun game for people of all ages (well, over 1 . I am sure you will find that out on your own - T -

As everyone has said, there is no such thing as being toooooo old to enjoy this experience. There are many "over 50's" around here, (including me which the entire world knows now thanks to the NY Times LOL)....
Have a wonderful time.... Remember, if you knew then what you know now.... Well here you do and you can look GREAT as well...
Regards, Baccara

Alexa *big hug* Welcome to SL Alexa. There's no such thing as too old in SL. Don't let one jerk deter you from playing. SL over all is a great community with alot of nice friendly people (sorry that's not the first impression you got) Like many communities there are some, shall we say "undesireables" that can make things a little less pleasant for others. Fortunately the good here out number the bad. Hope to meet you in world sometime

Well I'm "only" 26 but I think it's a very nice passtime (hobby) to live in SL community. I don't think that there's too old people in SL, but there's definitly too young residents (in their mind) but they are in minority.
Well I'm resident since 6 months or something and I can say that I never meet someone really bad.
Enjoy you SL. !

My mom is 65 and can't wait to get DSL to play Second Life. I showed her around a few months ago when she was visiting and she fell in love. Not one phone call passes with her where she doesn't ask about SL.

Alexa, Refer the guy to me. I'm 62, and I would be only too happy to discuss the problem he has, and give him a measured opinion on his ideas. And parentage. Actually that was abuse, and you were entitled to send in an abuse report. Unfortunately second life seems to be attracting more idiots than ever now, but I'm sorry you had to encounter one so early in your second life. Anyway, welcome to second life, and I hope that in future you will meet lots of nice people inworld.

As I've stated in Another thread I believe the diversity of age ranges in SL adds greatly to making SL such a great place to be.

Welcome to Second Life, Alexa! And I second what was said in other posts... this person was just being a moron. Seems there are still people who think that "games are only for young teens and students", which is just plainly stupid (besides, SL isn't really a game... ihee hee). As if once you reached a certain age/wedding/parenthood/"adult" state, your interests should suddenly shift to only boring things such as doing the hosuework, and all the fun stuff was to be left behind
