i do wish people would stop selectively quoting posts to promote their own hateful, bile spewing points. should i have emoted falling on the ground and begging forgiveness instead of just explaining that i forgot to add an other?

yes, that's exactly the impression that i have. if it's not true, my impression is wrong and that's a good thing. i've argued for months that this software can be just as useful to schools, social organizations, businesses and governments as it is to gamers. it could really become the w3b standard if it were enhanced and marketed correctly.

but i've been convinced otherwise by as many months of forum postings, feature updates, town meetings, et cetera. creating for the sake of creating is nice; but you don't really need to use an expensive, laggy online editor which relegates your creations to a proprietary format, and grants ownership to the host, for that.

so far second life has been used for two purposes. one is best described as a 3d chat room where people can socialize. many aspects of that, such as traffic and ratings, are designed, by the host, as games. people naturally fall into playing those games because that's what we do. the other is, admittedly, business-oriented. but there's only conception, and support, for businesses that deal in sl-related goods and services.

enough droning. nobody really cares. that's why i'm just playing the game, waiting for someone to publish server software with an open client so my school can build a small grid for our instructors and students to use without having to deal with game points, money et al.

Oh, there are lots of people playing the "games" that Khamon lists in his poll. Perhaps they don't want to admit it (or even admit it to themselves), but there are definitely people in-world with these types of goals.

I'm here to make stuff I like and to see what happens, pretty much. It's so great that there's now so much going on in-world all the time, it's a much more interesting place than when I joined about a year and a half ago. I can't wait to see how Philip and Co. manage to herd one million people into SL in the next few years.
