I've held off for a while now...giving the topic it's fair chance.... Here are my questions/observations: 1. Many of the things that come up in the 'hotbox' have been asked/answered before. 2. Many of things that come up in the 'hotbox' are issues that should be taken to support 3. ALL of the things brought up in the 'hotbox' give players no chance to respond with 'well, it works like this' or 'well, we have suggested it might be better if' 4. MAFIA (OMGWTF BOM BB) 5. Anyone with a decent tech background, who provides a suggestion, (ie Tiger, Az, Chris, Fran, Apo, Tcoz, Alo) is given PC-speak answers...(it's a known issue) How do you feel this forum is working so far Robin? BTW We still would like: Ability to mute sounds caused by gestures More ability to affect link prims from same script Improvements to llSubStringIndex and llListFindList Last logged in displayed in profile "Features" we wouldn't mind turning off llDetectedMass [/me saves time by not listing anymore...but you can bet your goat there are tons...] These are just a few samples in the past few weeks of features that have been listed in the 'Feature Suggestions' forums that haven't made their way to the 'Hotline'. It seems all that makes it to the 'Hotline' is 'OMG I was banned', and 'Hey, can I have GIF support' Just my 2 cents....feel free to ignore me, or better yet, start and thread and flame the hell outta me I'm retardant. edit - just because it's under another topic, doesn't make it less relevant.

It was changed to post-only in order to: - Prevent it from turning into a massive HEY LINDENS PAY ATTENTION TO ME circlejerk magnet
- Make it possible to actually find answers from Lindens without having to scroll through eight pages of crap first
- Differentiate it from feature suggestions/technical issues, where people can already comment on stuff
I do think that threads about personal stuff should be moved. I'd like to see that forum turn into a place where a person can find Definitive Answers without having to strain out all the grandstanding and attention-seeking that is inevitable without moving out threads that don't belong there.

Hey! You took the words right out of my mouth! Put them back or I'll call the cops! Yeah, the Hotline is getting filled with useless crap, and it's bound to get worse. They should have a lower chamber and an upper chamber. We would be in the lower chamber answering noob questions, and the important stuff would be moved to the upper one for Linden attention. Do they really expect to reach a population of 5 million and still have time to answer everyone?

No worse than marble rally crashing abbotts I think it works fine, and they are getting answered, so....what's the beef? Also, what are those inviso scanner things you working on that are swarming everywhere? We just can't seem to get an answer to *that*.

Nothing too serious, just some statistics gathering. For the love of god, quit the conspiracy theories already. I've known Pete since the dawn of time. He is a nice guy.

It does eliminate the "That was asked last week/month/year, dumbass" posts that invariably come after people ask questions. Some simple questions spawn flame wars in the open forums, now a Linden just answers politely and moves on.
It might encourage more people to use the forums when they know they can ask a question and not get jumped.

If the threads were more easily searchable, or the FAQ questions page answered these questions that are so frequently asked, I bet the traffic to the hotline would slow down a bit... Anyone feel like taking the questions from that page and transferring them to the FAQ page?? I recently asked a question in there, and was happy with the reply. I searched, believe me I searched, everywhere before I asked, and it may have been a simple question, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.. I think it serves its purpose but as stated by the words, "I think" that's just my opinion

I'll STATISTICS YOU! Yeah, ok, just pointing out that anyone can beef about anything. I think the hotline forum is just fine. I like the fact there are direct reponses, and fairly quickly considering LL's workload.

I think the hotline forum is great. I wish people would be a bit more thoughtful about what they post there but it's a nice thing they're doing for us even if it doesn't always generate an answer as specific as some people would like. I'm a bit amazed at how civil LL is to some of the posters *cough*Jarod*cough* who I'd probably ban for being such snarky twits. I've made one post. Got a good answer. I'm a satisified customer.

I love the Hotline. I hate most of the mouthbreathers posting to the Hotline. From: someone "How do I do <really simple thing that could be answered by Live Help or by any seasoned forum poster>?"
"Hey, Lindens, I'm a clownshoe who doesn't know how to be polite, but answer me anyway. btw, you're asshats!"
"Bad things happened to me, Lindens, and I place the blame squarely on your shoulders! I demand your immediate, public apology."
It's really sad that these sorts of posts have to waste Linden time, as there's often some very, very critical/interesting/informative posting happening in the Hotline. I enjoy those posts a lot, as it's a great window into the workings of LL and the future of one of my favorite products. I really hope the Hotline can continue to be something LL uses to communicate with us, although I can imagine in the longterm it becoming a significant burden if people don't think or search before they post there.

The hotline is an OK idea...
What we need instead is a special red phone in world. When you pick it up, it goes bright red and a siren starts flashing, and you're put straight through to the Lindens...

It seems pointless to me. Posts so far are categorised mostly into three groups: Things that should be sent to support@... , things that should be posted in Feature Suggestions, and things that should be posted in Technical Issues.
There are a very few posts where an issue has been discussed to no conclusion in one of the other forums and so someone asks the question on the Hotline forum just to get a definitive answer (if you can call "it's on our list for some future version" definitive anyway).

I rest my case. None of these are more then 2 days old: While I'm glad we have a 'hotline', it basically seems like a rehash of the Feature Suggestions, Tech Info forums...except this time, we get answers.

They should move the hotline inworld.
This way if people really have something that they need to say they'll have to travel to a place (far from a telehub) and then say it to a LL buddha.
Other people can go there and get a list all the things asked of the buddha.

I would be for an in-world Linden Buddha if he or she had a staff of 10 outside their waiting room to pre-sort questions and send them off to a) Live Help b) the website c) just looking at their own rather-clear user interface a second time d) bugs report. That will leave almost nothing for the Buddha to answer except:
"Why are we all here, oh Wise One?"
