Why is land in these 4 sims so expensive and the Government owns nearly all of it? I know the Prims the public lots support is x2.00, but you could still find a lot somewhere else that is slightly larger and supports the same or more prims for a fraction of the cost.

So whats the deal with these 4 Sims? Is this the Beverly Hills or SL?

I have always wondered the same thing. You get X2 prims, way less land... and there is no difference in lag if alot of people are shopping.

The four city sims were an experiment - they had all of the infrastructure already built - roads, sidewalks, canals, etc... In exchange for twice as many prims, people bought plots that could not be terraformed, in an urban environment. One of the reasons those four sims don't look as chaotic as the rest of SL is because of those restrictions. The benefit of the land is you get twice the number of prims - by slightly larger, you mean twice the size. The advantage of this is you pay less tier fee for the same number of prims as you would get on a larger plot. They are the only double primmed plots in SL, hence the premium price.

The city sims were a bit of a failed experiment for about a year since it's inception.

It hosted a disparate variety of building types and plot sizes.

Over time, however, folks have moved out or moved on, and the remaining residents have consolidated the city lots.

The result has been interesting... each Sim has its own feel, while still being connected by the (rarely used) roads. Miramare is very techy and retro-future (owing to Marcos' dominate building style), whereas Grignano is more classic downtown (Salazar's builds and, lately, my own work).

Lots of newbies come by the Sims, apparently getting lost from Stage4 (the interesting stuff is EAST, not west :) ). There is one club, a casino or two, many apartments, and a plethora of shops.

It's not all bad, really.

Besides, you simply cannot beat the double prim allotment... 3000 prims for $15/month? Sign me up. :)

I'd love to see more sims like thoes, but I doubt they would be any more successful then the origionals. I remember when I was a n00b, I also got lost in the city, as it was the 2nd thing I ever saw in SL. One thing that seems to puzzle me are the lack of avies in the big city, the land is developed, but finding a soul that accually isnt a noob is rather rare. The same also applies for Luna.

Although if the Lindens were to add on more city sims, I'd try be one of the first to get my share of the land there. :)

Oh yes, one more thing.

The Sims in the city have the same total number of prims able to be displayed... the lindens own over half the land to keep the prim limits down. In fact, in Grignano, the max prims a person can use is only 12,000, assuming they owned all the ownable land.

I know! I have a store on Marcos' land in Miramare, he was nice enough to let us "squat". I'd love to own a chunk of dirt there though. Recently a friend of mine purchased a fairly good size plot there, but it was sort of a fluke, it was offered to him. You hardly ever see land there up for grabs.

There are a few plots available, but nothing at reasonable price. I think three plots between 350-450m2 for prices between L$40,000 - L$100,000.

Yeah, its way outside of reasonable market prices. At best, the lots have a fair market value of around L$3000-L$5000 tops.. But L$50,000? I don't think so... Even with the 2x prims, its still way over priced. for that type of money, you could get a much larger lot and recreate the same city-scape for the same amount of money...

But you pay half as much in tier fees. If you're intending to be int he city for the long haul, it may be worth it.

Indeed, LF.

I am in the city for the long haul. Alby would likely soil his pants if he knew how much $L I've spent on land.

I am pleased, however, how we've been able to get Grignano and Miramare turned around into some definite "neighborhoods". Even Caroline has resurrected the SLFD. It now has a home in Miramare :D

Yes the city sims are nice, its a shame that the Lindens dont make more planed sims, they are so lovely.

The prices are astronomical there. I am this 'friend' of ingrids who was offered land there, I got about 600m for 15,000 - cheap by miramare standards lol. thats like $25 L a meter. The 2x prim allowance is nice though, i was able to stay in my tier but get about 320 prims for a store of my own and also a store for 2 of my friends. We Built a nice little shopping area hehe.

They are a fun place though, I wish more people would take an active intrest in the CIty Sim land - Seems like alot of inactive players own chunks and its just sits there idle.

Yes Alby, if you only knew how much those of us still in the city have spent. Grignano and Miramare are looking great and although i seem to be alone in re-engineering Barcola, I am not going to slow my pace on my 1/3 of ownable land there being rebuilt from the dirt up.

I too am very pleased to see the return of the SLFD. It was across the road from me and I have fond memories of being blackmailed into paying off the SLFD to ensure no "accidents" occured. :D YAY Caroline!

Barnesworth, i am grateful for your build on your newly acquired plot.

before anyone goes and rants about how ridiculous the price was that he paid, let me explain something... he bought it from me. i hadn't planned on selling any land in Miramare, but decided i could be happy with going down to 2 plots from 4. (i sold a small "prim plot" as well)

the plot Barnesworth bought from me was actually a "steal"! i know.. incredulous you say! but, while he bought it from me for $15k, i had bought it for $30k originally!!! so, you see.. i took a HUGE cut.. lost BIG TIME.
BUT, that is only in financial terms. his building skills impressed me, as well as matched Miramare's "feel" and Marcos' style; therefore, i felt he would be a welcome asset to Miramare. i felt that way to the point that i was willing to sell him my rather sizable chunk of land for a substantial savings.

hmm.. my whole point is that he's a welcome asset! not only that, but he got his build up in no time; whereas, i'm STILL working on plans for the buildings for Erga Obinex and Erga Arcinex. so this is really a kudos to him, to Marcos' wonderful handling of his land, as well as to everyone else who makes the city (Nova Albion, etc) what it is today.

-

oh yeah.. i agree. there should be a couple more city sims added. there's room right above what exists now.. hmm.. and to the east.. you know, the city could really grow!!

-

ALSO.. i PROMISE! i REALLY will build something soon.. i swear! really!

why doesn't anyone believe me? ;)
