I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as the SL dying. I think because of the vision that they have put into place and the mostly trouble free implementation, I think SL in one form or another will be around for quite some time.

Good grief, how hatefull can people get? Look at some of the other boards.....if they hate this so much they should quit now before they have a heart attack.

what i dont understand is. when people signed up for SL they should have had a reality check and realized that at some point during the game that THINGS DO GO WRONG either human error or hardware error . stop crying and complaining about it.. its not going to get anything done any faster .. everything is ok. keep telling yourself that.. all will be well i will be in there soon and have my fix

I don't know about many of the others, but I have SL projects that I have to get done, but I know when the Grid opens for me I will get to work on them then. Have a happy new year and use this time to go meet some friends in RL for a few hours.

Yes I'm supportive of LL though slightly annoyed (more because my backup plan is also unreachable by me).

As a SysAdmin I understand what they're going through, though not as badly since they don't have an actual downtime window like my work does. I honestly feel sorry for them, as I do that kind of work under those kinds of pressure, and almost at any time 24/7. I can assure you that this is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. :(

I still think that in the longer cases like this, we should get a post detailing what happened afterward. After all, this has probably started to reach the tech-based news services and they'll probably need to present a statement anyway.

But also, in the interim I'm looking into the tidal wave relief, getting the apartment cleaned up, and in general having a good weekend anyway.

I have known many administrators in my time in the computer world and I think that people are still not understanding the scope of which the Lindens are working. Everyone knows that with servers comes the understanding that at some point you will have to expand to accomodate a growing company. But what do you do when you have a company explosion? You try to work with what you have and upgrade accordingly to try and keep up while you can. I think that they have been trying to keep up with the expansion of us users but because of the holiday explosion of users I think the crash of some hard-ware was just the straw that broke the camels back. On the flip side I am thinking that once the system is back up and stable again we will be able to enjoy or uptime for another three or more months barring anymore catastrophies and patch upgrades. I still root for the Lindens, without their vision I would still be in another online game, trapped in a storyline that I had no control over.

Are we looking at a day three crisis? I hope not, no word from the Lindens yet but I will have to check the posts again.
