Green Day is not punk. If you really think Green Day is a punk revival, I would guess your maybe 25 years old. No offense. Green Day is what it is, but its not punk.

From the poll list, I voted for Black Sabbath.

31 on July 6 I will be 32. I never said Green Day was punk. When they first came out with there first albm "Duky" they were classified as Punk. REally I think classifications are stupied. They did bring some of the punk back in to rock that had left. Do take a look at some of the old articals about them.

I would just like to take this opportunity to express how deeply I hate Guns-n-Roses! Axel Rose sounds like Carol Channing after a heroin bender. Think of the end of "Sweet Child of Mine" and then think about "Diamond's Are A Girl's Best Friend." It's the same voice! *shudder*

Lupo, I know that Green Day has been classified as punk, didnt mean to single you out as embracing the comparison. I agree that classifications are rough, but you have to call it something I suppose. Look at the term, alternative. At first, it was fairly unique but it is so common now it is not really an alternative at all. It just bugs me that bands like Green Day, Rancid, and Blink 182 are often referred to as punk when its really just pop music. Nothing personal was intended by my remark, my apologies.

The songs I remember being played on the radio here in the US from Deep Purple (besides Smoke on the Water):

-Hush
-Highway Star
-Space Truckin'
-(My) Woman from Tokyo
-Strange Kind of Woman
-Black Night
-Perfect Strangers (some airplay - from their 1984 comeback album/tour - I was lucky enough to see them on that tour)

Sounds like Bubblegum to me.... Blink 182, anyways.

Rancid just sounds like a mistake.

Did Deep Purple ever have another song besides "Smoke on the Water?"

Seriously, I can't think of another popular song by them. But I can play that song's melody on panpipes.

My woman from Tokyo

Hush

Highway Star

bhwhahahahhahaahahah!

Ya know this is probably the only list I wish 'Silverchair' was on!

Bon Jovi was in a movie about vampires --- fancy that... a job that REQUIRED him to suck!
(sorry Triumph, but I sooo love that line).

forgive me if I missed someone mention The Beatles...

Nobody thinks the Beatles possibly rate as one of the greatest bands ever?

oh, and on a serious note, I think the Best Band on the list is U2

I think you're right that they're the best band that is still active. They certainly have the most consistently good songs out of the contemporary band.

However... Queen is catchy, gay, and played at sporting events despite the glaring lack of machismo (and the singer's death by aids). They are also musically too different to compare to U2 so I can't really say that U2 is better than them. I just like Queen a little bit more. U2 plays it safe just a little too often.

I would say this is a very strange list without the Beatles and Radiohead.

Thank you!

Though your list could use some fixing. ;)

The Sex Pistols were a pop-music experiment.

Punk happened somewhere between 68 - 74.. the 80's punk like DK was just a re-emergence. Everything after is a bastardization. :(
