Shiryu, the solution to that problem is not education- it's bullets.

A guess that would be a good solution for many problems, some of your posts (like the one i am quoting) included :D

I for one am strongly opposed to teaching people how to get dressed. You are only perpetuating the bondage of SLers everywhere! Throw off the shackles of your pants and be free, I say!

YES!!! I can get behind this 100%.

the issue I see with an "event" on teaching noobs how to wear clothes is this:

If a noob does not know the basic workings of the game and does not know how to actually get items out of boxes, how are they expected to grasp the concept of finding this event and actually attending...

While the event seems to have good intentions, to me, as a long time gamer (and once a noob in all the games I've played) the whole event would not work as intended.

what is truly needed to keep noobs from wearing boxes is a tutorial in the noob that MUST be completed in order to continue into the actual world...

I bet that was the thinking behind getting the new Greeter Program started.

I think it's a good idea, my first two weeks in SL I thought I had to get undressed like in life to change clothes, which means I thought I had to fly somewhere private to change my clothes. I didn't know you could just 'put on' clothes and they just changed over. I would spend 30 minutes flying around looking for an empty beach to change.

Then again, I also thought the welcome area WAS the world and that was it for about the first two or three days. So I didn't have anywhere to go to change my clothes. So, maybe most people that come into SL have more experience than I do with virtual worlds and it's not needed but I think it's a great idea.

I think it is a great idea :) I remember the first time I bought something from Aqua, and it came in a box. I promptly put it on and then I was wondering, what the heck? Where is my outfit, all I got was this silly box! I then promptly IMed the poor designer that I am sure was tired of answering such silly questions :D

Great Class Idea

I was one of those new players who was afraid to leave the Welcome Center and had trouble with clothing in boxes for weeks. Looking at the SL interface for the very first time can be some what scary and confusing for some players. Then you look at your inventory and wonder "what the heck is all this stuff?" My adorable partner Waves, was a much faster learner and zapped right through the inventory and clothing and right into finding stores. He held my hand and finally led me out of the Welcome Center and we went to the malls. He showed me how to use vendors, take the clothes out of the box, put it in my inventory, and then put it on me. I put boxes on my head at least every single night we logged on during my first month in SL, and Waves got a laugh out of if every single time I did it.

Now we have our own place with a vendor for free clothes. We get new players that zip right through putting their clothes on and ready to find more neat things. Just like Waves did. Then there are the other players that were like me - confused and scared. With them - sometimes it takes a good 20 or 30 minutes helping them get their new clothes on, and I am happy to do it. I know how they feel.

I still put things on my head today, but they are ususally floor or wall pieces that got in the way of my build. ;)

Based on my experiences of getting new residents to events, it would be nice if the host's name in the event listing were a link that opened up an IM window.

I remember a long time ago, I accidentally attached something on my AV. I nearly had a nervous breakdown when I couldn't figure out how to take it off. There was an SL Basics event about 3 sims away, but I was too ashamed to fly over there with that neon pink dildo on my head.

Maeve,

<<It's my class and I'm not trying to game the system. Daily at the club where I hang out I'm always explaining to people how to get the box off their head and the clothes on. I figured I'd get it out of the way all at once. It's a Linden approved class and everyone is welcome so if you want to see that it's an actual class come on over. I don't have anything to hide.>>

I've just seen this. My apologies for making fun of the idea. I'm afraid I just couldn't resist. *reminds self to practice restraint in the future*.

Anyway, I'm sorry if any of my remarks upset you. :(

Wait, you mean you can take the box off your head? Dammit, it took me ages to make those eye holes.
