Watch out. My finger's hovering over that Delete key. And I got an itchy Delete finger.

From: someone Originally posted by Pituca Chang hmm, I use hmm when I am thinking. never used err. But then I am from Southern California and not a Yank. Yankees are from the Northeast US. Thanks for checking into it Eddie. Could it be from errata?
Enquiring minds want to know.
I'm from Southern California, but currently living in the northeast, and I got asked if I was a Rebel one day. It was odd. I use er mostly for corrections, um for confusion, and hmm hrm wha huh for everything else. Who knows. Anyhow...

Eh, I'm from Texas and I still use 'er' and 'uhm' for corrections, as well as 'hmm' for thinking. Canadians, OTOH, I'm informed that they usually end questions with an 'eh'. (if I'm a little less coherent than usual it's because I just spent about 4 hours outside in 30-deg F weather, and I think I'm suffering an impending cold despite layers and a wool greatcoat >_< ) Speaking of regionalisms, does anyone subscribe to the theory of a polite "Okay" or "Yes" that actually means "No" due to the tone and delivery?
