My dad was a Goldwater Republican (prolly why I turned out to be stark-ravin' pinko) and I sincerely hope that a strong responsible Republican party always exists in this nation. Sorry. Democracy doesn't come at the end of a gun barrel. Good results or no --the end NEVER justifies the means. If there is any success in freedom and Democracy coming to Iraq --it will be the Iraqis to congratulate --not Bush. I wonder if our forefathers knew this? The United States of America wouldn't exist if we hadn't taken it at the end of a gun barrel. |

I know I shouldn't respond as I said I was out of the thread... but you are really begging for an answer here. So you shall have it. Who is responsible for you taking insult at anything? You or whoever or whatever you are involved in? I contend that each and every person is responsible for her or his own actions and responses - regardless of provocation. Consequently, I find it both arrogant and amusing (in the pitiful sense) that you would insist that I owe you an apology for a slight you deem I have inflicted upon you. Not only have you accused me of hurting you once, you then accused me of deliberately doing so again - "attacking" you personally while ignoring that I haven't referred to you as a person at all. I have been quite careful to refer to only your argumentation, not you as a person. You as a person don't exist for me --- only your posts do. I don't apologize to anyone for the existence of disease, for broken ankles or for poverty - not when I have had no personal involvement. I posted, that was a personal involvement, however your interpretation is your own and that is where my responsibility ends. I have been "read the riot act" and simply ignored the person doing so. Perhaps you would be happier isolating yourself from me via the IGNORE function as you have from Billy? Then again, being "blindered" may not make you any happier, but again, you are in charge of your own emotions, not I nor Billy. Lastly, if you feel I have been tearing you down, there is nothing I can do to dissuade you from that conclusion - not a single thing. How you reached that conclusion is beyond me. If you cannot take criticism of your style of posting, then silence may be your friend, though I note many references to people who no longer post in the forums and few of them are complimentary. So, even not posting may not accomplish the goal of avoiding criticism here. Okay. That's off my chest. You can continue to be hurt or not. Perhaps, but I wasn't refering to them....I was refering to the British..... In that case your analogy is certainly false. The British were trying to PREVENT American Independance at the barrel of a gun. That can work very well in most cases. A more apt analogy would be Saruman and a legion of 10,000 Uruk Hai attempting to bring the glory of Sauron to the poor deluded people of Rohan. |

You really do not take into consideration that there are actual human beings posting these words? That is amazing. If you were speaking to me on the phone would you consider me less than human and only think me a stream of sound waves? I wish to be the target of critics because it forces me to examine my ideals and my thoughts but I always assume that there is a human with feelings and emotions behind every post I read and rebutt. That does not mean that I refrain from the occasional jab but I try to only jab after I have been struck personally (such as when some folks decide to call anyone questioning Bush's motives a terrorist). You are a sad cat though if you really do not see the being behind the post if you are so quick to desensitize yourself to the humanity...but I suppose it is that ability which makes supporting this war in a foreign country all the easier as the burned babes are not on your doorstep. If you cannot see the person in front of you then they do not exist? Sad very sad.
