I'm making up a lot of names (again) for mapping purposes. I started a thread like this a long time ago but couldn't find it. What do you think, would it make more sense to call the volcano Mount Riiki or Mount Papa? The peak is in Papa, but someone's made a nice bubbling pool of lava a few meters away in Riiki. Or can someone suggest a cooler name? If asking here works, I might have more questions

I'd call it Mount Phobos... Who wouldn't love to mount those Phobos technovixens! Riiki is the home of Phobos Designs. -Flip

Ah, I see the lava is owned by the Phobos group. Pretty far away from the Phobos sim though. Maybe I should just call it Mount Me. That would probably generate some tourism.

Paparika? Well, according to a web site Papa and Riiki are Micronesian gods, the former representing the Earth and the latter holding up the sky. Riiki makes more sense I guess. I've been calling the swath of private islands to the west the Archipelago, cause it is one and it reminds me of Neuromancer. Unless someone already has a name for it.

Lol.. Actually Phobos Design predates the Phobos sim, something which still sort of annoys us. Ferran Brodsky designed the lavascape on the mountain side. It is still a work in progress... one she and I will do more work on as we get more time.
I sort of like Mount Riiki. Mount Phobos (Mount Fear) would be very cool too. It would make sacrificing virgins to the volcano so much easier.
Technovixens btw Flipp, thanks....

'Mount Papa' sounds a lil kinky.

The Lindens stole your name, Surreal! If the Phobians like Riiki, then that's what I'll use. Your lava kind of makes the volcano, after all. I'd prefer to pick names already in use for areas and features in SL. It's interesting though, I think a lot of things don't have names. Maybe it's because people don't need them when referring to something next door - it can be "the lake" or "the mountain" or "the city." Maybe in part it's because the SL population is so migratory that it's hard for a naming convention to take hold. So far I'm calling the water from Immaculate to Seacliff the Second Sea. I still haven't thought of anything for the water sims east and north of Seacliff. Lake Solomon is kind of obvious, and there's Serpentine River that flows from Tethys to Pomponio. I guess the forest on Rodeo changed names

Surely if you was to name the peak after a sim, it would be where the peak resides, not where the path up to it is

In the real world we don't have sims to name mountains after, so it's kind of a novel situation. I put a pic of the mountain below. That flag marking the peak is only a couple of meters over the sim border into Papa, and the erupting lava is in Riiki. Personally I like the idea of naming it after the Phobos group, in the way that a mountain might be named after the deity who lives there. But unfortunately that would be confusing. It could be "Surreal Mountain", that has a virtual ring to it

Well the whole sim can be a surreal experience.... especially after breaking open the One Barrel (caribbean rum).
Mt. Phobos sounds awesome. We will sacrifice a virgin in your honor... or at least pour a libation of rum. Virgins are getting harder to find. I think the dragon is getting them all first.
The naming project is cool. Keep it up.

Surreal + Ferran = Ferreal I suggest calling it "Ferreal" mountain, 'cuz it is as such.

Do people think of Luna as connected to Nova Albion? I know that the offifical city sims are Barcola, Miramare, Grignano, and Sistiana. But if I were to name a region of sims "Nova Albion", do you think it would make sense for Luna to be included? Thanks for any feedback.

onionpencil - Thanks for the interest. When I get the map done I'll be sharing it with everyone here. Not too long from now I hope.

Especially since they're right next to each other and the trolly line connects them. Otherwise Luna would be all by its lonesome. Luna is sort of like a shopping center/strip mall on the edge of town. I know that while the trolley line also extends east into Dore, Venice is separated by water from the areas that the Lindens laid out as the city proper. Lordfly's corner of Grignano, which features some really nice old downtown brink type buldings, runs right up against Venice. His walkway almosts connects to the public square there. It's kinda cool.

Thanks for the answers, guys. It sounds like Luna would fit in a "Nova Albion" region. Now I'm wondering if Bonifacio or even Dore should be included. I'll check out the relationship between Grignano and Venice, Salazar, when I get back in world. The region names are just supposed to help understand and describe the layout of the grid now that it's so big - it's not like they'd effect anything.

Just out of curioisity, does anyone know what the deal is with Lime and Plum? Plum appears to be a welcome area, with the Get Started platform and newbie sandbox region. But there's also a large snowglobe memorial on land owned by Fleabite Beach. Also, there's a big floating telehub platform in PG Plum, but the actual teleport location is just across the border in Mature Lime. I assume there's some history here. Does anyone know it?

Plum/Lime is, or was Welcome Area 2... (overflow when we get slashdotted etc) It was all Linden owned too not that long ago, but Fleabite seemed to acquire it at about the 1st anniversary time, when the museum was there. Flea can probably confirm (or deny) this and give more info. I don't think it ever went for public sale though. (Note... Lynn used to use the pair of sims for the Fool Moon flea-market before that).

Thanks for info, Siobhan. I guess there is indeed some complicated history behind it. Eventually we're going to need SL archeologists. Oh, I guess we do have Salazar, but he specializes in ancient civilization
