Void sims.. will they remain Linden-protected land?

I really, really like the new void sims, but I'm wondering if LL plans to keep the land under protected status?

I suspect that they will always remain empty for the reason that, unlike a regular sim, multiple voids run on a single server. I can't imagine them allowing building, events, and land ownership in those spots, unless they replaced them with real sims.

I sure hope they do remain void.

Wonder if LL could save money by having all new sims that come online (before auction) as void sims, (four sims for one server) until they go to auction at which time they're put on their own server?

Cool. At least something will remain vestigal and pure after all.

Thanks.

Can you at least put some trees on the islands though?

Why? it defeats the purpose of a sandbox... keeping the prims for building use.. saving sim resources for people to actually use... maximizing the bandwidth/client side cpu effort for what the sandbox is intended for...work.. not for prettying up an area.

I am against Mole's request. Please do not waste prims/resources in the sandbox areas.

on some of them. An occasional bare island is nice.

Ooh. Or what about an occasional atoll?

Unusual geological formations in
10-29-2004 16:20
Perhaps this odd geological formation in Amidyar is a submerged reef.

Or perhaps just buckling of the earth's crust, being thinner in void sims since they are spread over four times the area of a normal sim...

Turn "Build" on Again!
10-29-2004 22:15
The onlt change I would ask in the void sims is to set them to allow builds, but to return all objects within 5 minutes. That way, we could drop a vehicle (or show something to someone in a pristine area) and - even if we leave something behind, it gets cleaned.

It also alows for objects that rez an object to do so for a few minutes. Like if I wanted to bring out my pixel. I rez it, tell it to follow me, and then I move on.

I know it seems like I should be able to just move into a regular sim, but sometimes I want to rez something BEFORE I go into the next sim.

Can anyone tell me what the negative side would be to setting the voids to simply return object in 5 minutes?

I have a basic problem with how many "no build" areas we have acquired. It really breaks up my ability to immerse. How many places in real life forbid you from taking something out of your pockets?

Why can't a five minute return be the default in protected areas?

I would guess that rezzing objects and maintaining objects in several sims woudl tax the single server too much, and that's why it's not allowed.

Korg.. that makes no sense. We're not talking about the sandbox sims. We're talking about the water sims.

Have you been smoking with Darko? ;)

Read the red parts. Read Kathy's post. Then try to figure out what everyone ELSE (i.e. everyone but you) is talking about. You seem lost.

If it's not clear enough there, I've attached a helpful picture. Should clear things up nicely.

I would agree, but I'm not suggesting these objects would be "maintained." I would expect EVERYTHING to be returned to the owner within a matter of minutes. Even three minutes would allow me to do whatever I need to do and get on through.

Is the process of holding an object for a minute or two and then returning it a hard process for the server?

In the real world, I can take something out of my pocket anywhere - though some places will not allow me to keep somethings out long ;-)

I think they really need to look at the impact these void sims have on neighboring sims. Seacliff wasn't THIS bad before the sims went in.

It was at the edge of the world. Nothing to draw. That's why. Now that there's something for the video to draw on, you'll get less performance.

I think the number of islands in the void sims now is fine. The point of the void sims is to travel through, not stay in. If we add too many islands, we'll have people holding unofficial events on the islands, and that totally defeats the purpose. Plus, the ocean is really, really nice. :)

... I'm not seeing anyone saying that we need MORE islands...

I agree though. There are a decent number of islands already. They're all just BARE.

Ah, yes, trees. It's possible that trees may be too much for the sim to handle...I don't know, though.

Lindens, got an answer? :)
