Forseti, it's not a conspiracy theory, it's a report. It's a critique. Honestly, there are no tinfoil hats on my head dripping with egg salad.

Now Philip MUST be aware of these issues, after all he lives smack dab in the middle of this infrastructure. If memory serves, I think I read that he was an EIR at Accel. But I have not heard him address this in a satisfactory way. He and his lawyers must still be trying to devise a solution that could work without exposing them to liability.

I have no idea what he is aware of. The few exposures I've had to him, or readings I've done of his blog, etc. give me an impression of someone kinda bright, young, breathless and kinda "ooh shiny" about his tekkie toys. Somehow, I'm thinking this is a typical tekki-educated fellow with some kind of environment that gave him a boost, money, class, connections, whatever. And that his life's readings didn't include, oh, I dunno...C.S. Lewis, or Martin Buber or Maimonides or Thomas Aquinas or Heidigger or Telford Taylor or or anything about philosophy, human relations, soceities, law, etc. He's probably like a lot of modern people, his reading on that kind of stuff is limited to a Chomsky pamphlet. In that sense, I've always felt Will Wright of TSO had a much better reading list on the organization of society, at least, although it tended to be about science and architecture and less about philosophy, human relations, sociology, etc.

I'm willng to forgo some big governmnent -- go over to the government thread on that. But I do think dispute resolution is needed, and that's a culture, not a process.

It means that you don't just fling everybody over and say "oh, we don't know if we will keep those buildings we spent hours making...or put in telehubs...we'll keep you guessing." That's just common-sense community relations. "Nothing about us/without us."
Basic stuff.

And, you don't just privilege one group of Linden tree-huggers over another that might want to chop up beloved Linden nature and make a buck off it. These are just ordinary community relations matters handled by anybody in any kind of Internet group.

I think it's both. A growth engine like silicon valley can only exist with a legal foundation that gives market participants a *reasonable* level of protection and recourse.

well i don't disagree that LL could get better at communication, but I have never bought into the privilege issue.

Stepping aside the verbal skirmishing that's occuring here...
I think it's great that people are trying to help with transportation to the new continent while there aren't any telehubs. When I'm online, I'm willing to provide transport to pretty much anywhere using my dropship, the Chibi Death Egg. It seats 10 people, and so far it's been pretty safe over sim borders. I'd be willing to stop by every once in a while and help out with the effort in Purple. It's not as though I usually have something better to do.

Geez, why feel sorry for me? My land is making some money in the New Continent that covers some expenses at least and I have good confidence that with more labour and advertising it will continue to thrive.

Is your land doing that?

I suspect he feels sorry for you for some of the same reasons I do. Mainly your propensity towards paranoia. Your forum posts reek of it. Everyone is always attacking you it seems. The FIC is out to get you. Heh, you INVENTED the FIC. Baccara's request that those who participate in her plan to help folks out charge only 2 Lindens is a 'slap in your face'. Oh, and any attempt by Baccara and Mash to help out people is only to make THEM look good.

Well, maybe thats the way YOU work, but I have known Baccara for a long time (I am FIC dontcha know), and have met her in real life. She really IS that nice. It isn't an act of self-promotion, she really likes to help folks. I am so sorry you seem to live in a world of mistrust and paranoia where everyone is out for number 1. Fortunately not all of us do.

I can tell you when Mash and Baccara realized the ramifications of Purple being the 'Gateway' to the New Continent, they were not exactly thrilled. They realized this would lead to accusations of favoritism from certain folks. In fact I was talking to Mash before this thread was started, and he predicted this kind of post would come from YOU.

Both Baccara and Mash don't understand why you seem to resent them so much. It is obvious to me tho that you resent ANYBODY who is more succesful than you, or has been in SL longer than you. Or anybody who has friends for that matter.

So, yes. There are those of us who feel sorry for you. I sincerely hope you find some measure of happiness in both SL and RL. I would suggest some counseling, and some volunteer work in RL. Both can help open your eyes to some different 'realities' then those you seem to have experienced.

For being so eloquent on our behalf.
The truth is that Mash and I were very concerned when we realized the location of the New World.

We try our best to be good upstanding members of the community. This is not to say that we always succeed, but if we fail it is not for any malicious reason.

It is wonderful to know that we have such friends as Devlin, who are willing to remind others what a friend really is.

This experience has been wonderful for me personally; Devlin just reminded me why... The friends that we have made here are invaluable, every hour I spend here is a good memory.

We do try, we don't always succeed. This goes for Mash and me. I hope that if people have things to say in these forums, they try to do it with the best of intentions and for constructive reasons... With that, I will end my participation in this thread. I hope that you will take advantage of our offer if need be, and enjoy your journey to the New World.

Best Regards, Baccara
