Only for testing. It's hard to debug a multi-player game by yourself... Digi does the same. During the Game Dev contest we had 4 computer in our home office controlling 4 Av's. Was pretty wierd

I can barely handle two IM's at the same time, let alone two characters.

Ah, well I stand corrected. Best thing I read in the forums today. I'm on 2 computers and I VNC into a third. _____________________

I could do that with Ragnarok Online, but not SL (too much resource usage and I'm stuck with just the one comp at a time).

i have used an alt before to work on poses in furniture, also to harass my forum enemies, newbies, blingtards and cause general unrest, distruction, and chaos in the SL community.

I would if I had more than one PC.
I would have half a dozen (or more) basic accounts running around if I have a group and a sim to GM on. But I don't which is sad. ![]() _____________________

The only time I load up SL on both PCs is when I'm doing inventory management. With the current limit in the number of items that can be transferred to an offline account, it's very helpful when doing some major inventory reshuffling to have two accounts up and running.
On a side note, it would make inventory management so much easier if Linden Labs allowed non-transfer items to be moved within one end users accounts, perhaps by credit card linking. Now i know why many content creators wouldn't like this and i can fully understand and appreciate their concerns. Some players would abuse the situation and there are those that have two separate individuals on the same credit card, not just alts of one player. But from a purely inventory control and lag reduction standpoint transferring all items would sure be wonderful. angel ![]() |

There's really nothing quite as fun as sitting between 5 computers and holding a group conversation with yourself.
At least, until you start forgetting which keyboard is which player. |

Guess Who runs billions of SALTs ?
10-06-2005 10:27
Running simultaneous alts is good practice for us all on what it feels like to be God.
Except that for Him a few billion billion simultaneous alts is no problem. Including being simultaneously all the armadillos, humming birds, trees, bacteria and even rocks and dollops of dung (the latter two not quite so demanding of attention). Thats just this one puny little universe. And the word "simultaneous" doesn't do Him justice because He is "multi-simultaneous" ie not one time at a time, but all times at once. Even that hardly scratches the surface, because we imagine cause and effect means some things happen, and some don't. Only for infinitesimal little us. For Him, He runs all possible outcomes equally and "simultaneously". Though the word really hardly applies. So compared with a human, God is simultaneously multi-consciousness, multi-universe, multi-time, multi-outcome. A human is single-consciousness, single-universe, sequential-time, single-outcome. That's only the differences it's easy to describe. Is it any wonder most of us find Him hard to comprehend ? But God's biggest achievement (and therefore yours) is to be able to forget who He is, and to close down His consciousness to be puny enough for Him to be little you and me. Just as we limit ourselves in SL (when we are fully absorbed), to being just our avatars, forgetting the richer world around us. Nearly all of you think I'm joking, don't you? You'll find out at the end - maybe smile about this post. _________________________________________________ An apparently silly question to reflect upon - "If you deigned to 'speak' to one of your alts, what would you say if it complained of ill-treatment by another ?" Would GOD say the same to YOU ? __________________________________________________ Would you call an alt who knew what he was "enlightened" ? Would it help or hinder him in enjoying the game ? |

256 memory. ? coco With SL, you better have about a gig memory to run 2. At least thats my experience. I do this often for testing purposes. _____________________

Yep, I need to bite the bullet and somehow manage to install more memory. I want to be able to make use of putting words on prims when that comes in an update, which could be more or less relatively soon.
Knowing me, though, if I try, I will suddenly be unable to play SL at all or do much of anything else, either. coco _____________________
