While I can accept bugs in SL, and I can accept users unknowingly redistributing goods, I am most enraged by the self righteous attitudes of those who KNOW they are redistributing or reselling items expressly forbidden by the creators. It's the height of unmitigated gall when these thieves actually lecture the creators in SL on a morality derived from a buggy permissions system. We know who you are, we know you got away with it...but that doesn't make you right. The correct response to stealing is SHAME, not self righteousness.
While the Lindens are looking carefully at this problem from a technical standpoint, I also believe there should be some kind of official censure for those who knowingly and blatantly capitalize on SL bugs to redistribute other peoples work. Knowingly exploiting an SL bug to crash a sim is a punishable offense and so should exploiting an inventory bug to harm the SL economy.
I understand there are many shades of gray in this problem that could make such cases of theft difficult to prove. But some cases aren’t difficult to prove, and if those cases are punished, maybe it will send a message to the others “we haven’t caught you YET, but it doesn’t make you right”.

I thought i was losing my mind. Yesterday I went to check on my store and found about have of my stuff was not for sale anymore. The permissions were not different (thank god) but its like I had never set it for sale. However, going through my account history showed that they had been selling so I know they were set for sale at one point. Could this have been the result of that SL bug that is being mentioned? |

There are thankfully still some simple things left in this world. Such as, when in doubt, ask the creator of the item or items in question for clarification. "But I didn't know!" tends to be a pretty shoddy excuse, especially when Owner names are attached onto whatever's made, and how an inquiry is an IM away. Obviously, good customer service response is a part of this. |

Ahh the joys of permission bugs...what would we do without them? I had about half of my iventory for sale fall victim to the bugs. Lord knows what or how much of my stuff is floating about freely. I think you just have to come to a point where you get pissed, report it, suck it up, and then move on. The thing is..after so many times it starts to wear you down. I myself am a bit burned out right now..thus the lack of new content flowing from Torrid Wear. You push yourself, you try to do your best, crap happens, you get knocked down, and you start over again. Let's hope this vicious cycle isn't a constant because I for one can't take much more lol.
And now it's time for digressing with Torrid.
Aimee, I will not stand for this blatant flirting. I can't turn my back for one minute before you're off to Mexico with Flip or devoting your every thought to Torley. Just because Torley is our own private stash of Neon goodness does not make it right. What's next?? I'll find you in some sleezy motel with a "Yes, We're Open" sign on the door and sounds of "Let's Get it On Vol 24" in the air. After all I've done for you, this is how my devotion is repaid!

The permission bug that affected my stuff seemed to manifest oddly only in sets of clothing where a couple pieces of the outfit would be affected. It didn't touch any of the single sold items either. So I really wasn't too worried about people giving things away for free... I mean if they really wanted to give away a pair of panties from one set, a pair of shoes from another I really dont care. I would have been a little more upset if it affected entire outfits. That being said, I'm sorry for the problems Mistress is having with her recent skin theft. It just sucks that people can't be more honest about things like this and have the common decency to not give things away. |

As I mentioned earlier it has happend to a lot of us. Thankfully enough this go around when 1.5 hit I was in the middle of redoing all my stock anyway. For the last two months I have been repainting reworking older clothes and replacing them in vendors. If any of the old stuff is out there free to copy its a predicessor to my current abilitys as I learn something new each day. Some things I have noted though. People with Simple box sales that meaning no script controling the article sale are having these problems. IE checking contents for sale and putting a price on it. People who have Script sales with Rez type vendors are not suffering this, from the ones I have spoken to thus far. Rez meaning the entire sales box contained within the base of a vendor and only rezing when the cycle buttons pushed. Again Mistress I am truley sorry this has happend to you and it has also made me relook my skins to make them better and to look at better methods of ensuring that in the event that happend it would not be a catstrophic boon against my sales. However, Like Torrid and several others have stated this continued "BUG" happening from upgrade to upgrade really puts a kink in the "Your Items are protected" statement LL promised us thus discouraging content creation. I also know there are Freebee stores that have boxes with Multitudes of Textures and clothes that belong to everyone that I know here is a creator. The sad thing is when you check those Items in the box it say No Creator and when that happens even reporting it to LL is a waste of time because that No Creator pretty much kills proof as it was mine. Recently I have seen people with clothes on and ask them where they got it and they say so n so's junk yard or freebee store. I have them check the properties and the permissions on the item and it says No Creator but the texture is blatently mine. So I feel the pain of all those that have suffered here as I have suffered as well. Like I mentioned earlier best rule is to Revamp and make better so that the now Knock offs can be put to shame because you know the quality issues you had with the item and can sell the new stuff with the status of being better and know it is .. TY for your thoughts shadow, although I've found my sales are 50% better when I don't use a kiosk... and, in this situation I can prove it was mine so personal victory for me |

Last night I discovered yet another case of this happening to my stuff as I was setting up a new store. I don’t like to use vendors, and as I was setting up my boxed displays, I was double checking all the permissions (because of this thread, thank you Mistress!). Out of all the items I put out, one pair of panties that was boxed together with a complete outfit had full permissions set. I know for a fact that I did not give that item full perms. I find it odd that just a single item out of.. say.. fifty, was affected. As Jennyfur said, it’s no big deal because it’s just a pair of panties, but it really makes me wonder what else is floating around out there that I don’t know about. I spend a lot of time trying to make quality clothing and for the permissions to just randomly change… that’s not very encouraging. |
