Didn't say I wasn't starving... It is pretty neat, actually, to get paid to play, but around here there's not enough work to support anyone outside of the "establishments" -- universities and one or two symphonies -- which themselves are filled to the brim with tenured, rooted colleagues. I make about $3-4000 a year playing. The rest has to come from somewhere. *shrugs* The "conventional route" has its perks. |

I'm a freelance programmer on an enterprise, resource and planning system.
Although it would be cool, I don't think I could talk the financial director into looking at his month-end reports using a 3d scripted graph object in SL. Edit: And for customer maintenance fans out there, here's a sample screenshot of my daily environment (lol): Customer Maintenance Fans Click Here! _____________________

Scientist/Engineer/Manager in the pharmaceutical industry.
I would be a mad scientist, but the pay/benefits are not that good. Having a castle on a cliff for an office would be nice though. Ex-Army Ranger here. Any other Socom types around? |

Software engineer/architect, DBA, system admin, network monkey, unix whore, code bitch. My real job right now is mostly just the software engineer/architect and dba roles though.
I'm quite glad I don't have to do the admin and network stuff for a living anymore. I like to sleep at night. _____________________

I was a full-time network admin before I switched to full-time programming. Besides, programming is more interesting and challenging. And you're less likely to work yourself out of a job if you're competent. _____________________

Writer. I'm a tech writer principally, but I also write other stuff. I have a novel that's growing moss in a dark corner of my hard drive. I call it my sphagnum opus.

I work at East Carolina University in the College of Business as an Instructional Technology Consultant. Basically that means helping faculty use technology in their classrooms, helping with distance learning (primarily over the Internet), and maintaining a small faculty computer lab. I also do some network administration and web editing, and help configure machines for faculty (primarily Tablet PCs). I also get to play with cool new technology.

I work in retail, but it's not normal retail like a department store. We provide uniforms and equipment to the military and various police and fire departments around the wolrd.
As for my duties, they just like to refer to me as the "Office Bitch" I dunno if that's a bad thing or not...... ![]() |
