1..0 to 1.1 = The good to the bad..

1.1 has just collapsed my SL experience.

- As of this morning I have had to relog 4 different times to correct bugs.
I rarely if ever had to do this in 1.0.

- Music is worse, basically non existent so, there goes my earning money for dancing at Club Vogue because i cant dance to what I cant hear.

- Anim sounds, laughter, shurgs, etc either occur up to a minute late or not at all. Rarely on time.

- I can't attach items that I wont be wearing for a while since they refuse to detatch, thus requiring a relog.

- I now have 1000+ Linden dollars (at least) worth of clothing (garters and underpants) that no longer wear properly on me, so now if i go to PG areas my crotch is visible. So when clothiers make replacesment, are the Lindens going to give s the money to replace the items in our inventory?
Clothing from Chip & Nephilaine is expensive and worth it - and now it has to be repurchased when they make new panties and such for 1.1.

The worst of all for me is the music. Those who know, know that i really like dancing in SL, and now for me it is impossible.

Im a socializer in SL, i shop, dance and meet & greet. My clothing is hosed and my dance is hosed. So now SL has 1 out of 3 things for me, not counting my relationships formed.

Is there any recognition of these problems by the Lindens? If so where do they place on the priority chart, and what timeline for repair is there?

I didnt even mention how light renders my face different than at night so now i permanently force sunset for night or wear glasses during the day to hide the wierd light effect on my face.

This is totally saddening.

No repurchase needed Briana. I'm working on fixing items now. I'll happily exchange anything that doesn't fit right with an updated version free of charge.

You do know that you can get sounds to download faster by changing the sound bitrate in the "Sound" tab in the prefrances window, right?

Uhh.. LOWERING the bitrate will increase download times

It was my understanding that the bitrate inthe options only effected the files you upload, and not the ones you download.

Sound is bugged - I have mine muted and I still get sounds.

I would think that the Lindens should be apologizing to the SL clothiers like yourself for causing you the inconvience.

I talked to Chip last night and it seems that 1 or 2 pixels can wreak havoc on the crotch area now.

hehe, yeah... it was that way before. There was about a 1-2 pixel difference between crotchless and smeared down the inside of the thigh. It's still that way, only even more inconveniently now. Makes me wonder what they were thinking.

Briana, LOWER YOUR SOUND BITRATE and the download times will be much faster.

Really? So make the numbers lower? Right now its at the highest numerical setting, which i cannot see right now because im not in World.

I thought the highest number was best?

Or am i talking abou the upload stuff?

I thought Marilyn Murphy owned the land / building Club Vogue was on? I might be totally wrong.

Highest setting is the best QUALITY, but also takes the longest to download. Even putting it down to 96k would make sounds consiterably faster without a noticable decrease in quality, but you can toy with it until it's perfect.

Colin Linden explains:

To the best of my knowledge there wasn't a question asked about sound at the Town Hall hence it wasn't addressed. Now, since I wasn't there, I'm relying on the transcript like the rest of you, so.......

However, the official Linden answer on sound in 1.1 is we're aware of the issues and are working hard to hippo out the gnomish bugs to give you back your music.

With that said, what I don't have for you is an ETA on a fix. I know it wasn't in this morning's patch, so I can say with absolute confidence it's not fixed at the moment.

Darwin! I'm still fairly sure that the setting in preferences is for when you upload music. Yes it will make sounds download faster if you upload the sounds at a lower bit rate, but changing that shouldn't effect existing sounds.

i have to agree Briana, 1.1 has brought nothing but woe to my SL experience, music is terrible...the skips between wavs is as long as 30 seconds now, NONE of my clothing fits like it did...either i see my skin thru the clothes, or there is a terrible white "shine" to them< yes ive upgraded drivers and downgraded drivers...changed video settings>...im not sure if its lag or what it is...but EVERY time ive been on since the "3" updates...ive lagged so much...ive gotten stuck in mid air or mid stride...ending in a relog,or log off all together..and can someone explain WHY my land tax is going up EVERYDAY....???? see below...can someone explain this?...

ive really thought about dropping until<when or if> the software improves...why...if these were improvements...is everything so messed up?
im not having fun guys...ive resorted to playing warhammer fire warrior the last few days...kinda kewl actually...4 weeks ago i couldnt stand to NOT be in SL...now its becomming less and less attractive...please fix the problems ...or i see alot of open land on the horizon especially in ritch

Regarding audio bitrate in the settings, IF you have enough bandwidth, upping the sound number will result in shorter download times, BUT if you bump the number up to the point that you are exceeding your net connection's bandwidth, you will start causing significant packet loss which will cause ALL of your data (audio, animation, &c &c) to download MUCH slower. I strongly advise folks to leave those numbers at their default settings unless you are absolutely sure you know what your downstream bandwidth is.

Regarding audio in general, we will be switching audio from DirectSound to FMOD in the very near future (Mac version is already using FMOD) which should eliminate many of our audio issues. If you are hearing no sounds and are using a Sound Blaster, please update your drivers.
