A sim that looks like a different planet - in a realistic way. For example - if the planet has a higher nitrogen content than oxygen, how would that realistically affect the biology and then see ground cover and plants and animals and builds that would realistically be found in that type of atmosphere and gravity.

I't something that I have not seen in SL yet, but then, I find new things that I haven't seen every day.

edited to say that if you did something like this I would love to create plants for you. :D

Ohh..I like that idea Rose.

I'd also like to see a very futuristic city, with people movers like escalators and trams and such, tall slim builds, lots of rounded edges, and robots providing various services, as well as cruising the streets and hallways. Vendors could include very futuristic clothing and devices, keeping with the theme.

An elegant nightclub, space journey-type ride (could be done like the haunted house, or like a sit down planetarium..

And perhaps, something dire or secret lurking beyond the clean and sterile front, such as evil cloning labs, or outcasts and rebels living in the immense sewer system, or rogue killer security bots that would shoot at guests when they enter certain areas.

I was thinking about making a coffee house for philosophical debates. I have a lot of work to do with it though. Making animations and scripting stuff.

The idea was to figure out a few interesting philosophical topics 2 or 3 times a week and run an event at a coffee shop where people could come and debate on that topic. Topics would span across RL and SL issues. I would have a suggestion box where people could list things they would like to see discussed.

I don't know if my idea will ever get off the ground because I have a ton of things I need to do first. Like... buy land, build, script and animations for food and drinks, build the coffee shop (I was thinking something along the lines of the coffee house on friends).

I don't even know if there would be an interest in it, it's just an idea I have been playing with.

Great idea, Jessica. You might check in with the Thinkers group, who have something similar (I think).

This is an *excellent* idea.

I'd like to second the "make a city" idea, although make it slightly differently...

Basically, you would make a "traditional" city... small, low-rise buildings, brick and wood and stone. Then, build on top of those with skyscrapers, modern buildings, etc. Finally, build on top of those more futuristic elements -- vertical rail systems, hovercars, etc. etc.

It'd make for a very natural looking futuristic city :)

Either that or an Arcology would be neat.

Hmm..I like that. Each building would be like looking at layers of rock or rings in a tree. From an older time period at the bottom, to a distant future one at the top. Would be very cool indeed.

A coffee shop for philosophy? Too emo. A GENTLEMANS CLUB!

That would rub me the right way.

Exactly. I've had this plan in my head for months, when I was in a certain island holding group; the proposal was passed on sadly.

It would make everything look extremely organic and otherwise "lived-in"; skyscrapers butting up against brick and mortar, butting up against futuristic architecture grafted onto older foundations.

The concept makes me giddy. :)

SL needs a PROPHET.

He should be landless and penniless.
He should be sustained by the loving and generous hearts of his brothers and sisters (the rest of SL)
He should travel by boat, cart, or by foot only across this Promised Land of Ours spreading his word.

SL doesn't need a government yet....first it needs a GOD.

Lordfly, I REEEALLLY like this idea. To make it authentic, make the early buildings first, let people live in them/rent them out, let it grow a little on its own, then add the new layers one at a time and repeat. That would really make each epoch more organic.

Let me know if you'd ever go through with this, I'd love to help out where I can.

I imagine a prophet who stays logged in for 40 days travelling across the grid would attract some followers.

For individuals and businesses, the key would be to graciously accept the presence of the prophet and collect the "traffic" from the prohpets following.

what happens to the prophet will be left for the people of SL to decide. Perhaps the prophet will be seen as a threat to the SL society and they will choose to destroy him or banish him. Maybe the prophet will be heralded as the harbinger of love and hope, and therefore honored and respected.

It would be an interesting journey!

A collection of great ideas. Rose, since that area is a specialty of yours, if the tools ever became available to create such a place (which I hope they do), then I'd be eager to see you on it! Different physics models and interplanetary travel in SL would be a fantastic thing to have -- LL could roll out a big ad campaign to go with that too, a future parallel to the promo vids they've done in the past for "new land".

David, that sounds very cyberpunk to me -- I like it a lot. I'll just say there are some venerable oldbies back on the "scene" who very much share the same sentiment and are itching to get creative again. Hey, who knows, one day maybe Nexus Prime will be complete, and by that, I don't mean in a final sense, but as a fully operational cyberpunk city with the type of engaging dynamics that you have described. DEUS EX w00t!

I haven't seen a Simpsons house in SL yet, Heather -- although I have seen some dwellings that look like they came out of a Dr. Seuss book.

*reads on*

Jessica, there is a fantastic coffee shop in development intended as an alternative social scene -- it's located at the SL Public Library in Gualala. Can't miss it -- currently, look for the big green mug on the top. And yes, interesting discussion is an intent. Lordfly has made his Coffee Talk as well, which I used to park on top of in the ol' Midnight City, and I think there's also a Grignano branch.

Arcology? SL has an Arcolith, which was inspired by the same thoughtline. Ben Kerensky put it forth to Baku and Masa and the W-Hats got to work on it in the Baku sim. It's mallish but in a new form and it's looking great... including a chaotic parking area at the bottom.

:)

Holy shit, I just had an idea.

There is a guy in San Diego who hosts a show on Sunday Mornings. It's called "The Jesus Christ Show"

He never breaks character, and people talk to him like he is Jesus.

The first time I heard it I had no idea who this guy was. It kind of freaked me out, the guy is that good.

He could play the prophet in this project...thats talk radio publicity on a ClearChannel Station (Media Conglomorate).

This guy has been talked about in the National Media too.

Okay Champie -- that gives me an idea too.

Contact Jonas inworld... he hosts Tringo as Jesus. :)

We'll connect those dots and see where they lead.

Thanks Torley!

Well, there is another project that I am involved in that may be able to integrate a prophet into it to give it even more depth..

It's not my decision though, so I may sit on this for a little while and see if anyone contacts me about it.

Cadroe, those pictures are great!

Has anyone ever proposed an architectural project using Buckminster Fuller designs?

On a side note, I always thouht it would be cool to have a global event, even if just once every 6 months or so. It may be impossible, but I think it would be so cool, if suddenly, without warning, huge flying saucers landed in various sims across the map, and aliens, controlled either by Lindens or volunteers or both, piled out and began to invade Second Life, using advanced weaponry.

The entire grid would become damage enabled at the same moment as the ships landing, and then it would be the residents fighting in the streets for thier planet, or barricading themselves in various builds with family and friends. This could last a full day, or a few hours. Then we'd finally have a use for all these weapons, and I could look so studly blasting away at the evil invaders with my Seburo's.

Other global events could involve Godzilla type creatures rising from the sea, thick, glowing fog covering the land, tidal waves, mole people attacking or kidnapping Lindens and the residents having to search the grid and find them and rescue them.

I dunno if it will ever be possible, but I sure think it would be fun and maybe help bring the community together, even if for just a short time. Imagine the stories folks could tell...
