Dear Friends and Friends of Great Strides,

We have scheduled a dance party and fundraiser for Great Strides in Second Life, an online virtual world.

Please feel free to widely distribute this notice:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Dance Party to Benefit Great Strides
(An equine facilitated mental health agency)

DJ services provided courtesy of DJ Nexeus Fatale (Thanks, Nexeus!)

Dance space provided courtesy of AMO Island (Thanks, In Kenzo!)

====================================================

Who: YOU and your fave dance partners!

What: A dance party to benefit Great Strides, whose mission is: To promote emotional healing and growth in partnership with horses. No minimum or maximum donation amount.

When: Sunday, December 16, 2007 - 11 - 2 pm SLT (Second Life Time - aka Pacific Time)

Where: AMO Island (Write for location information)

Why: To support scholarships for mentally ill clients who cannot afford treatment.

====================================================

What we do...

Great Strides is an innovative program that helps people to overcome their mental health issues by partnering treatment staff with equine staff.

Great Strides offers equine facilitated psychotherapy, therapeutic horsemanship and equine facilitated learning. Through specially designed interactive experiences that promote emotional healing, we build confidence, improve social skills, and help clients make positive changes in their lives. Our farm environment provides a unique setting enabling clients to address treatment issues on many different experiential levels that they might not ordinarily access in a therapists office.

For more information on Great Strides, visit:

www.GreatStrides.org

or contact Veri Oddfellow (aka Brad Lewis) inworld.

Hi - I'm a hostess/manager of a club in SL. Here is how I publicize my events:

1. Post on the SL Events website (a pull-down on the same menu you found the forums on).

2. I'm a member of SLProfiles, so I post it there (they have their own events boards).

3. Join the Announce It group, Parties, Raves and Events group, and send out Notices or IMs in accordance with their terms.

4. There is a blog here: http://nwn.blogs.com that posts events - you may wish to contact him about publicizing yours.

Take out a 50L classified, rent some in-world billboards in nightclubs across the grid and since yours is a charity event - you can prepare a notecard and landmark giver textured prim and ask clubs and shops to display it until the event. Send me one and I will put it out onmy parcels.

One way to publicize your event would be to include every word of a complete advertisement for the event in a post in the Resident Answers forum about where to post an advertisement for an event.

good play, you managed to advertise it here without ppl yelling at you for it being in the wrong forum

you could have asked how to advertise the best way, without all the details of your event being posted here

felt like I read an ad, not a question

I would make up a nice poster and a donation box as well, and ask your favorite merchants, or merchants associated with horsey things (although maybe not ALL horsey things in SL, LOL) if they'll put them up in their shops.

Your poster should:

Be easy to read
Contain your website address
Describe the event
List a goal (L$, e.g.)
Give contact info (you or someone else)
Give a landmark to the event on touching it

Will you have giveaways/prizes/freebies? Will the event have a popular DJ?

Don't forget the donation box. It should have a split pay script that will transfer money from the shop owner to an avatar associated with the event. Lots of people might not be able to attend but still want to donate money.

All,

Wow ... thanks so much, so fast, for all your good feedback. And sorry for posting the whole thing, I was thinking that some folks might have suggestions on including things I'd missed (like a notecard and prizes, etc.) which did happen, without me having to come back and say, yeah, I did that ... so sorry if it looked like a shameless plug. *blushes a bit*

I'm taking notes and will put all of these suggestions to good use!

Any more?

Many thanks,

We'll let you get away with it this time, but 10 or 12 more posts like this and you will be given a severe spanking. :)

Read the forum descriptions?????

That's unpossible.

Of course if you include the words "Forum Cartel" in your group name, parcel name, event name, etc. then you get to advertise your events and even provide reviews as much as you want, so it appears.

Yeah, please don't let the word get out that once you actually get to a Forum Cartel event, you're forced to buy Oryx's latest fashion creations and sit through a time-share presentation on owning property in Liome.

Did anyone bother to read the event he is asking about? Sounds like a pretty nice thing. I'm going to donate to the cause, as a matter of fact. So there!

WTF does this mean? What's wrong with people sending notices about art openings? I've never seen a "review" of anything as a function of a Cartel notice, group IM, function, event, etc. Nor have I ever seen people blatantly advertising their creations through any of the above venues.

Ya .......

If this means I've got to leave the group (which I only just joined btw) just to post and not to be slammed for everything I say, there's something wrong with this world :o

Snowballs or pie anyone?

So if I adverstise things like shopping trips here I'll get a spanking? It's a real shame I hate shopping, as I was educated at an English public shool and I love getting spanked ... apparently:)

Well the point is that this guy has a pretty decent cause from looking at his website, and he wants to have an event and get some good turn-out. Has nothing to do with the Forum Cartel.

I feel bad that he stepped in here and had people jump all over him for posting in RA. :(

If you are member of the Forum Cartel, not only will you get a spanking, but you will have a medium-sized household cooling appliance shoved up your bum.

I guess I may have to join then, as we English public schoolboys love this kind of thing ..... apparently:)

I'm still wondering what a medium-sized household cooling appliance is, though, but it does sound like you Americans have really cool 'appliances'.

still wondering why it is some ppl post off topic or with advertising in their post get the sharp end of the stick, while others seem to be accepted

*shrug*

Not being a forum police or dogooder, I just think if it applies to one it should apply to all

at least the op apologized for the full ad in their post and they also learned something

so all ended well I guess

GAH I hate when SL has issues, I end up here, on the forums, questioning things which really irk me but I already know the answer to LOL

anywho

I´m guessing that it might have helped that this person´s post was for a charity event, the original poster apologised for mis-posting and such :)

Seems like most people are given the benefit of the doubt here when they first appear. The last person we jabbed a sharp stick at was repeatedly advertising something that was a lot less helpful for humanity than horses who make the mentally ill feel better.

Doesn't AMO Island belong to a company that does SL development work for RL clients? (Edit) I bet In Kenzo must have some great ideas about how to promote your event! Very cool that they donated a place for it.

The best way to publicize your event is to buy ads in SL-specific publications and to send out press releases.

I've got to defend Rhaorth here. There is inconsistency when it comes to this type of thing. I don't think there is any hidden agenda, but I can see why many people view it as a double standard or believe there is a clique.

Please do not misunderstand me, I'm not saying that is the case. I am all about consistency though. Something that I see degrading very quickly around here amongst the posters.
