Kyle Bertran, plays Jazz/blues Piano an sings well too.

what I like about him is how engages people there in conversation between songs, makes it feel like you are leaning against his piano in some 2 bit dance club / bar in RL...

my absolut favorite is UKD Project. THey always play live and their own produced songs. Anto Cale is one of the best composers and Rola Hykova has an unbelieveable voice.
they always bann you with their great music and spirit during the gigs.

As for the comment made about using backing tracks, the person is truly a live singer. Zdiva is a musically trained unlike a lot of others, and clearly she, and many other live musicians in SL use backing tracks, some esp. made for said musician, and attract so many avs, the sims crash.

Well Freddy, I'm sorry to hear that I and my non-instrument-playing performing brethren somewhat dent your professional sensibilities when it comes to our reliance on other people producing backing tracks for us.

I have myself brooched this subject on a number of occasions with some of your 'proper' musicians, who are maybe only showing me a great mercy by telling me I shouldn't worry. Perhaps the crowds we attract are merely a combined sympathy vote en-masse, with the fees and tips we earn nothing more than a charitable contribution, a condescending pat on the head? Who knows?

I greatly admire (and envy) you 'real' musicians who can play your own instruments and write and perform original material. I've seen a few and the talent out there in Second Life is just amazing. They get the biggest crowds I've seen and deservedly so. The ones I admire the most however are those who don't sit themselves on an elitist pedestal over us 'karaoke' singers, and instead acknowledge that using the only instrument we have at our disposal, our voices, still counts as a performance that when accomplished can command a modicum of respect.

I had the good fortune to attract one of these 'real' musicians, who felt compelled enough to produce a backing track purely for me with the promise of more to come. I was amazed that somebody would do this for me, and an excellent job too! For a while I almost felt like a 'real' performer myself!

Or does this still make me just a talent-deprived lazy gutless karaoke singer with ideas above his station?

After reading the complete thread, I can't believe nobody mentioned Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico.. They are my absolute FAVS.. Been going to see them at the Amphibicatt amphitheater every Friday for several years.. They are fantastic!! They do about 80% covers and 20% their own compositions.. Frogg Marlowe (whose avatar is a very hip looking frog) plays guitar/hamonica, and sings, and Jaycatt Nico plays piano and sings... Both great musicians and VERY funny.. Their Friday night 2 hour shows shouldn't be missed....

well, since a contest was mentioned in this thread a week or so ago, let me also mention the contest that Jax Streeter himself got rolling back on December 31 with a deadline of March 1. My intent is not to spam, however, only to inform. Basically this contest called Superstar Avatar after Jax's original song, is about photos of SL Musicians. You snap a picture (up to 3) of your favorite SL Musician during their performance and submit it to Jax's group website.
