Will anyone miss me when I'm gone?

I'm finally leaving SL in a couple of days. Combination of factors, mostly related to my personal life circumstances. Though recently, I've been a bit disgusted with Linden Labs' mismanagement of Second Life. I won't go into all that here.

Point is, I don't have time to be here anymore, and my enjoyment of it is mostly gone. There are a lot of good things about Second Life that I will miss - but the good is being outweighted by the bad more and more these days.

Will anyone miss me? Do people often leave and come back months or years later? Do you think I'll be back in some form or another?

I ask these things because this is Resident Answers, and I am a bit curious.

Also, will someone PLEASSSE buy my gorgeous beach lot?
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nefrax/153/156/40
I've dropped the price to downright ridiculous for old continent protected waterfront, and still no bites. Two months ago this thing would have sold for twice as much. Now I'll be lucky to feed it to a landbot, probably.

Annabelle's free advice on the land market: I think it's solely investors buying from each other, and it's gonna crash hard. The economy is not growing to match the massive amounts of land LL is putting out, and someone's got to pay that tier.

But it won't be me any more.

I'm wandering off to tend to my real life for the evening. Your thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

not sure how this relates to what resident answers is supposed to be used for heh

I voted who the heck are you since I do not know you, and since I do not know you I cannot guess on the questions of if you will be back etc

I think SL is totally different for each person

as for the purpose of this thread I think it was used to plug your land :)
(I could be wrong though)

good luck trying to sell it

Your the only one who can decide if you'll come back later. I guess it depends on your love of second life and the friendships you have formed. I've been in second life so long and devoted so much of myself that I could never leave even with all of the new problems and the fact that all the new changes seem to be bad. Under all the crap I still love this game and it's people and it's possibility to much.

so let me get this right ... your here in a questions forum ... telling us your leaving and that YOU think the land market is about to crash .... but yet you can't help but stick in a little advert to sell your plot ?

Im sorry to hear you personal life is taking up your time that you might spend here in SL ,but comming here in an attempt to sell your land is just not on ... yes you asked questions ...only due to the fact that you can argue that you actualy asked questions . Blatent

Blatent advertisment disguised as a question .

Nice try

Anna I feel your pain and I am also selling out and going basic account due to just too many sl issues and not wanting to put anymore money into this game. Its very hard to sell land right now and I am selling cheap! I wish you luck but I do understand if it is effecting your RL as it is mine also and RL comes first! Good Luck gf.... :)

No one has the right to judge you for your choice what you feel is best for you!

I think it was April or May that a glut of new mainland sent the bottom of the market from L$ 13-14 per square meter to 7-8. I haven't looked lately, but other people's comments lead me to believe it's still in the 8-10 range.

In other words, it already crashed hard.

Based on your join date, I'm guessing you bought land right about the time it was most expensive, and sadly that means taking a big loss if you want to sell it before next month's tier is due. :(

I guess some of these replies demonstrate that the only thing hated more than advertising, is advertising disguised as something else (like all the blatant Pepsi crap in Back to the Future 2).

But I see through the mention of the land (which you only did here because it's really hard to sell land that's not priced low enough to show up on the first page or two of the land search). Your intent was genuine. So to answer your question, your friends will miss you. Those that don't know you personally probably won't.

I'm sure if I disappeared tomorrow there are only about five people who would even notice, let alone give a crap.

EDIT: Wow, two craps in one post. Craptacular.

Honestly I voted "Who are you", but "No, good riddence." works to. I would honestly ask those you formed friendships with, not post a poll here. They are the ones that can say one way or the other.

It's at L$10 a meter, not L$8 so it has not gone down as far as it could. What has been devalued greatly is waterfront land since many of the new sims on the Nautilus continent are on the water.

It's not a stupid question, but I would look at it a different way.

You at least have declared your intent of leaving SL. So those who know you, know you are leaving.

But what happens when someone has an accident? They may have many close friends in SL yet without any off-grid contact.

For the first few days, it just seems they haven't logged on. Then it may be a little surprising that the person has been offline so long without giving notice. Then it's worrying. Account closed? Are they in hospital? Dead? You may never know.

And in months to come, there will always be a wondering about "whatever happened to so-and-so?"

A few days a go the lowest listed land was about 10.3L a meter, last 2 days its moved to 9.8. I still don't trust the market enough to buy a ton of land. I think the best bet for the average person is same as it has always been. Buy the piece of land thats right for you and buy it simply because you like it and want it. Don't buy if your very worried about what you will get when you reach the point you no longer want it or need it.

And in the long run, it's the amount of monthly tier that's way more of a factor than the original price, unless you pay way too much up front for the land. Make sure you are good with how much it will cost you per month before you commit.

And hi Sarah.

If your enjoyment os gone, then you are doing the right thing. What's the point if you don't enjoy it?. Not knowing your circumstances, but if forced to choose, I'd take RL every time. Good luck. But a raspberry for the Ad.

Interesting thoughts. I was more curious about the leaving thing and whether or not people who say they'll leave really do.

Thanks for the nice sentiments from some of you. Not really digging the hostility, though. Is it REALLY that hard for people to be decent? Some people seem to think that hiding behind a computer gives them license to be as nasty as they can be. That's one of the things I really dislike about SL. And it makes me think that underneath it all, a lot of people really are mean and nasty and dirty on the inside, deep down in their core. Not a very positive direction for humanity.

As for the land mention, it was an afterthought. Now that I look back at the post, I realize that when I cut and pasted the SLurl from the map view when I was in world, it defaulted to the region center and doesn't even lead to the right lot. Ah well. The right one is over in the land forum, if you're interested.

Never heard of them, my land is owned by Azure Islands? Is that what you meant?

Why announce you're leaving for good? You're gonna feel stupid if you start wanting to come back! It's like me saying I'll never drink again after a bad hangover!

Anyway, good luck, whoever you are, in doing whatever you do!

I don't know you, but you seem like a decent person and I miss decent people when they leave. So I'm a bit torn here.

Any chance I can get pie anyway?

Anshe is Anshe Chung. If you never heard of her, you must be pretty new to SL.

She is so successful she has her own wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anshe_Chung

Annabelle, it's possible your land has not sold because it is less than 512 meters. I filter anything smaller than 512 out of my search. Don't feed it to a landbot. If the times comes and you need to sell it fast, IM Sarah Nerd.
