Im just curious if there is any products out there that you will absolutely not compromise in favor of better value, better taste, whatever. Brand loyalty is sort of interesting (maybe) and I would like to hear your thoughts on it. What type of product doesnt matter to you and what product will you absolutely not change brands for any reason?

My "I dont care": I dont care about toothpaste. I purposefully buy a different kind everytime I need toothpaste because it adds a bit of variety.

What I will not change: Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter. Its the best! All others are second class and I will not skimp on peanut butter.

To me brand loyalty is a negating process. It basicly goes:

I tried products from companies X, Y and Z and I had problmes with X and Y, therefore when i'm looking at a new product i'm inclinded not to buy things from them.

Sometimes it works the other way, but less often. (i.e. the widget I bought from company Z was so good I'll always buy their products)

Hmmm. I'll probably think of more later, but the first thing that comes to mind is soda.... I want Diet Coke, *not* that horrible Diet Rite, thanks. :) It's endlessly annoying to me that so many otherwise good burger/hot dog (etc.) places here only carry Diet Rite. Yuck. :D

Brand loyalty? Dont really have much preference though I do like a few things.

I like using Nivea body lotion, uv protection. Been using it for almost 3 years now. I like it.

I also like Nivea lip balm (only the cherry one, nothing else will do)

For my face, i like the face shop - a korean brand facial care that I used since about mid this year. I like that too.

Apart from that, I dont know if I have much preferences? Oh, and I havent eaten macdonalds for some years now...

Only for perfume. (Hugo Boss Red for Women)

Everything else is negotiable. Especially clothing - I refuse to pay an extra $30-60 just because it has Tommy's name on the ass.

This was a really good question! I thought and thought about it, because nothing came to mind in which I thought " I will ONLY buy tha brand" and then I had to do an entire mental inventory of my closet, fridge, and pantry, and bar, and it finally hit me.

I have never purchased any kind of water chestnuts but Geisha(tm) water chestnuts. I go through about 6 cans a year, I guess I'm not a brand guy.

Um . . . Clinique cosmetics, Diet Coke, Tide and Cheer detergents, Palmolive dishwashing liquid, Cascade dishwasher detergent, Resolve spot remover, Heinz ketchup, Kleenex kleenex, Uni-Ball Vision pens, Q-Tips q-tips, Dial soap, Scott toliet tissue, Scope mouthwash, Secret deoderant, Always minipads - hey, this is an awfully personal question!

Same as the poster above; I have a do-not-buy-from list, but I dont particularly care too much about the other way around (although some brands do tend to indicate a quality product)

Eg, MSI are on my do-not-buy-from list, after I recieved two faulty motherboards, and a bad PSU, none of which they were willing to replace (after many dollars were spent on international phone calls.)

Q-Tips

Oh yeah! That's another one. I've tried the cheap imitation swabs, and they're awful... I won't buy anything but Q-Tips now. I learned my lesson. :)

Gillette. I must have the latest razor model. Even if it costs a fortune in the long run.

You and Jack Torrence; do you dissolve them in your mouth? If so I reccomend that you avoid employ as a winter caretaker of a snowbound Colorado resort. :p

I have an almost religious fondness for products of the 3M corporation, but that is partly motivated by quality and elegance of their wares.

I drink DrPepper.
I will settle for Coke.
I will NOT compromise taste. Like Pepsi or 'diet' drinks.

I prefer Compaq to other brands because I learned how get them to bend to my will. Even the newer ones. (Yet I will not get an actual HP, or a Dell, when getting a brand PC instead of just building one)

I find myself buying Memorex CD-Rs because I don't trust cheap cds.

I only get my Compostion Books (marbley things) from Wal-Mart because they are cheap and can take a beating, compared to otheres which are cheap and tear easily.

I'm a creature of fanboyism and habbit.

I stick with my brands, even if I start to hate them. Occasionaly I'll try something new, and that usually ends up becoming my new "usual."

Some important favorites:
  1. Frank's Redhot
  2. VitaminWater
  3. Xbox
  4. RightGuard Extreme
  5. Dasani
  6. Qtip
  7. BandAid

I definitely will NOT buy cheap perfume. I may schlump around most of the time in jeans and T-shirts from Walmart and Target, but it's the Nordstrom perfume counter or none at all for me. I am loyal to certain perfumes for a period of time, until I find a new one I like. Right now I'm rotating between (in order of most frequently used) Le Baiser du Dragon by Cartier, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Blush by Marc Jacobs and occasionally Vera Wang's signature fragrance. I've also got a few Givenchy scents that I use infrequently.

Fragrance is very important to me, and specific smells and perfumes will evoke memories of different time periods; I used to wear Anais Anais and Calvin Klein's Eternity when I was in college, and I used to "borrow" (i.e. pinch) hits off my mom's Opium and Chanel No. 5 perfumes when in high school. Just a whiff of those scents can transport me to those days.

Also, we buy only Starbucks coffee for our drip coffee maker, I can't tolerate cheap coffee. I rarely buy expensive made-up Starbucks drinks, but it's worth it to us to pay $10-12 per pound for their coffee and make it ourselves at home.

Hehehe... that's great, me too! :)

With a lot of products, I will buy different brands and sample them around until I've found something I really like, and then "stabilize" on that for awhile... until the next time I feel an urge to mix things up again!

I used to be Mac-only when it came to computers. That's changed tho as my needs in computing have adapted.

The results of my pondering as to what branded items I will not have substituted are a little disturbing, but....

Cap'n Morgan Rum
Citadelle Gin
Pravda Vodka
Coke
Dove Soap
Brooks Bros dress socks

All else is negotiable

Whereas I am Clinique, Diet Coke, Tide and Palmolive!

Looked at this way, this question takes on an entirely new meaning.

I dunno ...

I'm trying to think of some name brand that I would stick exclusively with.

I suppose the closest thing to it would be Neutrogena products for my face, though I'm susceptible to pretty packaging and will try most new things.

I'm a fairly non-picky person in most material aspects though.

I don't really know the difference between cheap perfume and real perfume. Is the real stuff supposed to knock you off your feet? I have some "real" perfume but it was given to me.

Fantacially Loyal:
1. nVidia
2. Intel
3. Mountain Dew
4. Logitech
5. Creative Labs

Don't Care Abouts:
1. Microsoft (I only use this because I have no other choice)
2. Clothing Brands (what can I say? I'm a male!)
3. Food (not a picky eater except a drink wise)

There's quite a bit more, but I don't feel like writing a book at the moment, but those are the ones high on the list.
