This, without a doubt...
This is a parody of a parody of a thread that is an unintentional parody.

vi and emacs both have their place, along with many other text editors.

Personally, I make it a point to be able to use them all, and of course ed. I never know what will be available on a system I'm asked to use. As long as it's not notepad.exe, or worse wordpad or winword, I'm happy.

This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind the Emacs user attacks on Vi. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks.

It's my humble opinion these attacks are used as a way make one feel important or shore up ones own belief system.

I feel the same about any belief system that seeks to build up its own credibility by attacking other's beliefs.

If these attacks made the attacker feel better about his/her belief system, I support their continued use. However, I don't believe anything positive can be gained by downgrading other's beliefs.

That's why I don't waste my time bashing other belief systems.

Discuss....

Edit: This thread concerns threads that were running at the time I posted this thread. It does not concern Emacs users in general.

It's just a bunch of nerds having a pissing contest. No different from rednecks getting up in arms over sports teams, types of trucks, brands of beer, etc.

Personally, I prefer vi, but I couldn't care less what other people choose to do. These sorts of arguments are proof that we humans will attack each other over the most ridiculous of reasons.

Be it over trivial reasons like this or other trivial reasons like race and religion, to quote the prophet Zappa, "people, we is not wrapped tight" and, "we're dumb all over."
