You know what, you are so right. In fact this year, I think I'll donate the other half of my salary to the canadian government so that our governor general, Adrian Clarkson can buy another dress, or taker her posse on another worldwide tour to the tune of 5 million.

Maybe Harper will start moving you guys away from the deadly socialism. That will reduce your taxes.

Yea, you sure can trust the Liberals, right? You guys need to drop the socialism. Just take a look at France and recognize that there is no good future for countries that fall for socialism. It rots you.

That wasn't the choice.

And yes, on certain social issues you can trust the liberals, since the party at least has a platform. The Cons on the other hand, are all about the free vote. So, its hard to know where the party stands, since they don't publish anything on where all their candidates stand on various social issues.

Apparently Quebecers are the highest taxed people in North America. I work for the government until August each year. If someone could tell me I'm wrong about this, I would probably feel a lot better about life.

When you think about it, the only things you really HAVE to do in this world is pay taxes and die.

They are pretty high Ingrid.. When i move from Quebec to Ontario I saved about 3K in taxes alone!!!!...

Yea, you're probably confused because the left up there is just as insane as the US left. They constantly scream all kinds of things that don't make any sense about their political opponents, which causes confusion to anyone that doesn't pay very close attention to what's going on. It's pretty pathetic, but that's how it usually works when a belief system starts dying. All it can do is attack anyone that doesn't pretend that the beliefs are still good.

The reason many people in Canada are afraid of the conservatives is because they're afraid of losing their "free" ride. One of the things Harper wants to do is lower taxes by a lot. A lot of Canadians seem to really love paying taxes for some reason. They barely have a military and they're paying more in taxes than the US. That's just crazy.

Hahahaha, does that article have something to do with what I posted? No. I guess you're one of the people that love to pay taxes that I was talking about. Crazy.

Actually, it's possible to leave the society you're in for one that doesn't have taxes (or for isolation). Most people like the convenience of not having to find their own food and make their own clothes and shelter though. :p

I typically vote conservative. But you have to understand, that the canadian right wing would be about dead center on the scale of the US right and left wing.

If the Canadian "military", and health care system actually worked, I don't think I'd feels so bad about giving 50% of my income towards them. Open borders kids.. come on in... invade us. No one is stopping you.

Yea, that's fine. Progress is progress, even if it's very slow. For Canada, moving away from socialism gently is probably the best way to go. Some countries, such as France, won't have the chance to do it gently, they are too far along I think. They will suddenly get tired of living in a crappy country, and suddenly they'll elect some extremist leader. That's what always ends up happening with countries that fall for communism and socialism. They are both total failures.

Canada has moved towards socialism for the same reason that a lot of Europe has. The US and our allies have stabilized the world to the point where it isn't very important for Canada to have a strong military. Instead of doing the smart thing and cutting taxes, or maintaining a strong military just in case the US suddenly decides to stop helping the world so much, they decided to start putting the money into insane things like socialized medicine. That works for awhile. Then, as salaries of doctors in other capitalistic countries rises while the salaries in the socialist countries cannot, the doctors start leaving and fewer people have any interest in being a doctor. Then you have the decay that is happening now.

Well, this reply came through before my unsubscription got processed, so I'll respond to it.

It's not a worthless post, it's informing people I won't be responding to anything they might try to say to me here. And for the record I find it great fun to have discussions with you and your posts to often be quite humorous.
