South Florida Hurricane Warning

In what seems like a repeat of Katrina, Tropical Storm Rita is expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours as a category 1 hurricane, somewhere in South Florida - most likely Miami or the Keys unless it turns suddenly. Broward is under a hurricane watch and tropical storm warning, and Palm Beach County is under a tropical storm warning. Everyone in the path of this storm should watch it closely and be prepared - as we saw last time, even a category 1 storm can knock the hell out of things. Stay safe :)

On a related note:

South Florida

24hr Outlook - Look for building 4-5’ NE/E swell on Monday as TD #18 moves toward the region. Top spots will see plus peaks late in the day as winds increase from the E at 14-17kt.
48hr Outlook and beyond - Head high+ NE storm surf on tap for Tuesday with E winds 23-27kt. We may see cleaner conditions late in the day depending on the exact track of TD #18, so stay tuned. Smaller leftovers on tap for Wednesday and Thursday.

Wax up your boards!

I think I speak for most of us when I say: Again?

Then again, compared to Central Florida last season, I'm not exactly complaining.

*sigh* My thoughts go out to those in the path of Rita. :(

On a side note, according the to NOAA the track right now has it headed right for Houston, Texas.

Rita is now a Cat 2 Storm.

I hope all of the south Florida SLers are staying safe.

At the moment it looks like it's headed more for Corpus.

I live right within the Galveston county borders (basically us Gulf Coast folks of Houston for those who aren't familar). I am pretty far inland but still it looks quite possible us locals are in for a unfortunate treat. Folks here are already in line fillin' up extra tanks of gas.

As bad as the humidity is here I always hoped for some good wind to come in and lighten the place up but this could be very well more than enough if it continues to develop. From my guess, the humidity here says just enough that the Rita is just suckin' up lots of energy from the Gulf and we will get hit pretty good.

Shame those Katrina victims are now victims of yet another storm on the path. Houston has some nasty flood zones and it can get pretty ugly.

The new track has it aiming for north of Corpus and south of Houston. Then inland to Ausin/San Antonio and eventually on to Dallas! *eek* We all know that these things can change dramatically so keep watching.

Also they now predict it will hit at a Catagory 4 with winds of 135mph.

Yea, as freaky as mother nature has been this storm could very well get sneaky again and flip right back to Florida. That was no joke either.

All of us could use it here in the 4 states area....I just hate for the brunt of it to hit the coast in order for us to benefit.

I was really thinking more that I have a cousin there who was always a bitch. Maybe we could send it to Carrollton instead? Vanilla Ice went to high school there... and Vanilla Ice was born in Florida... Maybe God is trying to erase all memory of Vanilla Ice?

Nah not carrollton, if my company closes my facility that would be the closest place for me to transfer too. Hmm How'bout Toad Suck Arkansas? My town would still get the beneficial rain and Well Toad Suck would be a haven for frogs then.

Wha? LOL What is wrong with Plano? I lived there for almost a year and a half. Like it way better than the part of Dallas I am in now. :)

Chance -> Oh that's too funny, I've been trying to cut mine off for years!

ReallyRick -> Where bouts in Dallas? There are so many parts of Dallas I'm scared to look at on a map much less drive through. Plano, Frisco, Arlington Irving - pretty much the burbs is where I go when I visit friends there.

Yes I've been watching it all day. I see they are evacuating everyone in the area. I hope it doesn't touch NOLA again, especially with people heading back there already...I wish it wouldn't hit anywhere, BUT GOD HOW WE NEED THE RAIN it will bring.

ReallyRick -> Well we'll have get together sometime when I pass through there. I think it's cool to meet my SL and Online friends :D

That would be cool. I am always up for meeting SL residents.

BREAKING NEWS on CNN - Hurricane Rita now a Category 5 with winds of 165mph. :( Where ever it hits there will be major damage and I hope people will be willing to dig into their pockets again to donate even more money to The Red Cross.

My thoughts are with you all there in Texas, no matter where this mean bitch hits she is going to be bad. I only hope that everyone one is evacuated and that is is in a not so dense area.

My thoughts are with you - please, please, evacuate if you are in her path.

I don't think anybody can withstand a Cat 5 - you just have to get out of it's way.
