Energy can't be created or destroyed. It can only be converted from one form to another. I'd place the likelihood of this being legit at just about zero.

Ok, wonderful. Sound pretty friggin hokey to me. If they have been able to prove it to themselves for 3 years, why don't they just start making products and make billions of dollars. What's with this total BS of bringing in 57,514 scientists to test it. Bullocks.

Strictly speaking, it wouldn't be that simple. You'd need the funding to actually do that -- no matter how sound the science behind a thing is, it's not going anywhere without the funding.

That said, I've already given my opinion of the likelihood that anything will come of this.

According to Wikipedia, perpetual motion machines have been reported as far back as the 8th century....

Also there is:

The Museum of Unworkable Devices

http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/museum/unwork.htm

This extensive page collects information on almost every aspect of perpetual motion machines—their history, the underlying physics, famous hoaxes, testing guides and even an appreciation of some misguided machines as works of fine art.

Such machines would violate well-established laws of physics, of course, but that hasn't stopped centuries of overhopeful engineers and outright charlatans from announcing, and sometimes patenting, devices that can purportedly work forever without an external energy source.

The site's layout is somewhat cumbersome, dividing its content into "galleries" of thematically related material. But that's only a reflection of the enormous amount of material here, and of the large number of images that illustrate the concepts and devices involved.

Peace :)

I think you now know why all I had to say to that, Richie, was "TANSTAAFL". There ain't no such thing as a free lunch, R. A. Heinlein's adorable summation of several laws of physics which have steadfastedly refused to change. We'd like 'em to, no doubt about that - would be nice to be wrong about certain facets of thermodynamics especially.

Unfortunately, for thier "energy creation" to be true thousands of other observations and technology based on those observations would likely have to be false. The evidence is overwhelmingly on the side of "energy can not be created or destroyed".

There's an old restatement of the Laws of Thermodynamics:

Zeroth Law: There's only one game in town.
First Law: You have to play.
Second Law: The fix is in.
Third Law: You're gonna lose.

I hope I remembered it correctly. :p
