From: Selador Cellardoor What a sensitive soul you are, Ekim! Actually, he's right. Felines (of most species, and when able to) make their kills by severing the spinal cord via a bite to the neck. If the bird's 'pain' messages can't get to its brain, it CANNOT feel pain, and would likely die instantly anyway (fairly few animals outside of humans become quadriplegic [sp?]). Besides, the cat should be praised for its hunting prowess. Makes him know he's done the good thing as a cat. Thing is, cats NEED to hunt... something. ANYTHING.
