I seem to be asking this a lot this week, so I'll ask everyone: What was your first car? Did you love it? Hate it? Want it back? Mine was a light blue 1986 Mazda 323 hatchback that I got in 1994 with 80,000 miles on it for something like $2,000. That was back when everything I owned in the world could fit inside that little car. Gave it up when it started leaking oil two years later. Looked a little like this:

Mine was a dark blue 1988 Toyota Camry, manual. I shared it with my younger brother (who is one year younger than me). He crashed it before I could really drive it.

I still miss this car.
Big ass engine, trunk space for days and many many memories.
Was one of the biggest surprises of my life, a college graduation present. They showed up that morning (my mom, sister and stepfather) before the ceremony and it was parked infront of the house with a banner hanging on it that had my name!
Didn't have my license yet, so all I could do was turn the key and start it.
Sigh ... I loved that car.
Still have the plates and key fob for it.
Yea, I'm a sentimental softie.
*sniffle*

My first car was a 1984 Chevette that I bought for $2400 in 1987 - I'd just got my drivers license, and had been saving up for 2 years for it. About 6 weeks after I got it, the manual transmission failed (I bent a fork), and that's all she wrote. After that - between 1987 and 1990 I went thru 8 different vehicles: 1978 Firebird 1977 TransAm 1979 Firebird 1973 US Mail Jeep 1978 Dodge Ram 1979 Chevy Suburban 1979 Datsun 210 1985 Plymouth Reliant

1969 light blue VW Bug. I called it "Franz Kafka" Any automobile that throws spark plugs or that can be fixed with a pair of pantyhose and duct tape is a work of engineering genius. R.I.P. Franz.

1973 Chevy Impala Stationwagon. When you shut the doors you could hear little rust bits hitting the ground for a good 30 seconds after. The floor was so rusted out you could see the road going by under your feet. I sold it to a demolition derby driver who sent it to its grave in style

My first car was an oddity of sorts. Silver Mercedes 300D (1977 model). A lot like this, only kinda rounder and with blue--and much nicer--hubcaps because my Dad believed it brought prosperity. You see, my Dad was a Chinese immigrant, and when he came to the West, he kept seeing ads about "Mercedes" being a status symbol or something to show you had made it in the world. He really bought into that. I, however, being an audaciously absent-minded driver, could not relate. And so, while I drove this car, I didn't drive it a lot. Well, some years later, my Dad died. And then the car croaked too and proved to be too expensive to repair. So then my fam sold the car to someone running a Mercedes-Benz taxi company. So it's prolly out there now, shuttling passengers around. There's something magical about that movement.

8 vehicles in 3 years? Demo Derby? or do we really NOT wanna know? ... The Impala (a 77) was received in 86, stolen and ruined in 88. then I've had or used pretty much exclusively 77 Pacer Coupe (cute and free) 79 Pacer Wagon (big V 8, room to move sets and furniture, and a design forerunner) 89 Camry (w/the bitchin' transmission & over drive switches w00HOOO) 87 Dodge sedan boy I forget what it was (one of a few cars in the household we all shared) 89 Olds Delta 88 Royale (Lil Boy Blue, sturdy, reliable, cosmetically challenged car) 92 Plymouth Acclaim (Zippy, my current ride)

1963 Dodge 330 two-door. Much like this one, minus the hood scoop and in sort of an aquamarine blue. Push button transmission!!! I drove it for almost two years, before I rear-ended some guy one day when it was raining. THAT was not fun. P2

I got my liscense in 1988 but my first car was a red 1983 Ford Mustang. Yes my dad believed in spoiling me. However, I will note that the car was a salvaged vehicle so it wasn't THAT great. All the guys loved the Recaro seats in it. Then he bought my mom a 1989 Camero with t-tops that was sunburnt orange. He lied through his teeth on that one, he actually bought it for me. It was given to me when I graduated from High School in 1990. The car was an absolute lemon and three years later, while in college, he got rid of it and bought me a dark blue 1993 Nissan Sentra. At that time I was told in no uncertain terms that I would not be getting a car that was an automatic, so the Nissan was a manual transmission. To this day I will only buy a car with a manual transmission. I had the Nissan until I bought my first car on my own in 2003. I will also admit to driving every other vehicle that my parents owned while I still lived at home. He was something of a car nut. Lotus, Ferrari, Corvettes, Porsche, Rolls Royce, pickups, you name it and I have probably driven it.

My first car was a 1991 Mazda RX-7 convertible, similar to this one: I loved that car - it had a rotary engine and was rear wheel drive. I also loved that it was both a convertible and also had a removable t-top, along with a glass back window. At the time, most convertibles still had those horrible plastic back windows. The car also had speakers in the headrests of the seats - it was a great car. The only thing that got me to replace it was getting a brand new RX-7 a few years later, which has still been my favorite car I have ever owned.

1980 Audi 4000 I drove it for a year before I had an accident and totaled it. I ran a new stoplight (they day they turned it on) and hit someone from the opposite turn lane at 55mph. The Audi held up amazingly well. After that I got a Volkswagon Scirocco.

From: Cristiano Midnight ...getting a brand new RX-7 a few years later, which has still been my favorite car I have ever owned... Cristiano, I love that FD RX-7. I consider that to be one of the most beautiful Japanese cars ever made. My first was an '84 Jetta 5 speed, which made it across the country and back. It had bailing wire holding up the exhaust and a mismatched driver's door (don't ask). Finally blew a few years later from a leaking radiator at 300,000 miles, and last I heard my mechanic sold it to a little old lady.

My first car was a 1968 Pontiac POS (I got it in 1982). I named the behemouth "Elmo". It rarely got me from point A to point B without lots of cussing and crying on my part. I bought it for $200 from my parish priest. He totally stiffed me! Eventually, after it sat at the curb at my parents house for months, we paid a junkyard $25 to haul it away.
The first car I bought brand new was a 1990 VW Cabriolet Convertible. It was red with a white top. OMG, I loved that car. I sold it 4 years later because I'd had a baby and it was too hard getting her in and out of the rear seat, plus, the stroller barely fit in the trunk. I still miss that car.

From: Lorelei Patel Saleen S7? It will only set you back $555,000 Yes, I have. He had a massive car fetish. Pissed my mom off like no tomorrow. Here is a pic of another expensive one he had for a while. Buy one now and it will cost you $599,000 for a real one and not a replica. For those that don't know this it was the original Miami Vice car and is a Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder
