http://www.atheists.org/flash.line/smalko1.htmhere's a little snippet from the article: From: someone SMALKOWSKI FOUND NOT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS
Chester (Chuck) Smalkowski, a member of American Atheists living in Hardesty, Oklahoma, has been found Not Guilty on all counts by a twelve person jury in Guymon, Texas County, Oklahoma.
Chuck, together with his family, is featured on the cover of the current issue of American Atheist Magazine. At the 2006 Annual Convention, the Smalkowski Family was presented the American Atheists Award for Valor, now prominently displayed on the wall of their home.
The Smalkowski case attracted national attention after Nicole Smalkowski was kicked off of the girls' basketball team after refusing to stand in a circle with her teammates on the gymnasium floor of the Hardesty public High School and recite the "Lord's Prayer." After school officials learned that she and her family were Atheists, lies were created about her as grounds to take her off of the team. and here's another one: From: someone In closing argument, Edwin told the jury that it really should not be necessary for an Atheist to tell them it is wrong to lie under oath, as he reminded them the Christian school officials and the police had done in their sworn trial testimony. "Thou shall not bare false witness against thy neighbor. Ninth Commandment. Eight if you are Roman Catholic," Kagin said.
The jury believed the Atheists. Unanimously.
The night of the verdict, tornados of unusual violence descended on the panhandle of Oklahoma. The home of the Principal who had brought the false charges against Chuck Smalkowski was severely damaged.
This fact has no relationship whatsoever to the verdict.

From: Sally Rosebud Who was Christian. The liar was the principal of the Christian school. You do realise bad people DO seek out refuge in a place where people trust them. The fact there are bad people everywhere doesn't mean everyone is bad.

I don't think the average Christian is necessarily bad at all -- merely ignorant and misled. Great evil is done in the name of Christianity, and indeed, I think it's safe to say that Christianity itself is fundamentally evil, but that doesn't mean that all Chrisitians are evil by any stretch. Great article, by the by.

I see this.... "In closing argument, Edwin told the jury that it really should not be necessary for an Atheist to tell them it is wrong to lie under oath, as he reminded them the Christian school officials and the police had done in their sworn trial testimony. "Thou shall not bare false witness against thy neighbor. Ninth Commandment. Eight if you are Roman Catholic," Kagin said." Of course you are not following my posts. I was referring to the second article, as I stated. Now, whose reading comprehension are we talking about again?

Wow, Kevn, is english not your first language? "The Christian school officials" means "the officials, who were Chrisitan" not that it was a Christian school. Hello?

From: Kevn Klein Do you think the "The Christian school officials" were officials of a public school? Yes, it was a public school, but even if it had been a Christian school they'd still have been in the wrong, unless you think perjury and slander are A-OK as long as it's against an atheist. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1598933Edit: I see you deleted your post as I was responding to it.

Thank you for clarifying it was a single article, Joy didn't make it clear in her first post. But regardless, my point stands. So the principal was a Christian at a public school. Who cares what school it was? I would guess you are far more familiar with that atheist site an I. The point is.... The atheists won by using scripture to make their point.

Do you think they wouldn't have won the case had they not quoted scripture? *laughs* You're getting desperate, Kevn.

Why point to hypocrisy to argue a case? Was it just add on to beat the Christian up? A way to make a negative comment about ones faith, to rub salt in the wound?

First off, I don't believe that Christianity is FUNDAMENTALLY evil. I believe that ALL religions are fundamentally GOOD. It's just the assholes looking for power, money and control that fuck it up.
Second, Kevn, I know you're trying, but it's not working. Pointing out hypocricy isn't "using scripture". The atheists won by pointing out rules that the Principal and the rest automatically agreed to follow, the instant they proclaimed their Christianity. Knowing these rules and pointing out the discrepancies isn't "using scripture", it's knowing rules. Would you rather the lawyer go in ignorant of these rules? How would that help his client?
Also, the whole Bill Clinton thing? Time to give that one up. He got a blowjob. Come on.
Third, you didn't catch that they were about the same case when both quotes were CLEARLY about the Chuck Smalkowski case, even going so far as to STATE HIS NAME?
Joy's right. Reading comprehension ISN'T your strong suit.

Come on. You're just fucking with us now, aren't you? The whole case is about Christianity. It's about saying the Lord's Prayer and lies were told about the person that didn't want to say it, which is her inalienable right. One of the rules of Christianity... and there's only 10 of 'em... is "Thou shalt not bear false witness" I know it looks like an attack, but surely even YOU can take off the Troll wig for long enough to admit these people were in the wrong.

Sorry, I went to bed last night and didn't have time to hold Kevn's hand through the first couple of paragraphs of that article. Here is where it's CLEARLY STATED the school is a public school: From: someone The Smalkowski case attracted national attention after Nicole Smalkowski was kicked off of the girls' basketball team after refusing to stand in a circle with her teammates on the gymnasium floor of the Hardesty public High School and recite the "Lord's Prayer." After school officials learned that she and her family were Atheists, lies were created about her as grounds to take her off of the team. Bolded & colored for Kevn. It was there last night. It's still there this morning. I still don't see how you managed to miss that.
