rub tomatos on you, and I am being serious. Take a tomato and slice it up and rub the slices on the area that got sprayed in the shower or something.

In my experience if you're nice to furries then they don't spay offensive chemicals on you.

There are commerical shampoo's that you can buy at Pet stores but from personal experience - use the tomato juce first. Big Cans of Tomato juce. Just pour it on the dog and let it sit. Something in the canned tomato juce does it better than anything else I have encountered.
AFTER you soak them in the canned juce for a good 15 - 20 min. THEN use the commercial product. No more skunkie. If you just use the commerical product you will be smelling reminents of skunkie here and there for months. The stuff that you can get at PetCo is called SIMPLE SOLUTION® Skunk Odor Eliminator. _____________________

Ack! WHile all these things work to some extent, skunk juice is a total bitch to get rid of. My fiance had a cat who got a dose of skunk. 2 tomato juice baths, 2 regular baths later..... she still stank (the cat not my fiance!
![]() Just remember- if you have a Lab, those dogs have fur that's quite water-resistant so buy lots of tomato juice & vinegar. |

okay! i'm going to rub tomatoes on myself tonight! Is there a commercial product anyone knows of? Seriously, bathe your dog in tomato juice. One of the dogs I uses to have got sprayed by a skunk twice. It works. I'm sure if you check one of the larger pet stores like Petsmart or Petco. that they carry something. You could also take the dog to the vet and have them give him a bath. _____________________

She told me the best thing she found is a vinegar based douche and febreeze Right-click the skunks, Freeze them, then Eject them, and Ban From Land. Be sure to file an AR with the local SPCA. Especially if they're C4-ing your guests. Sysly: Tomato juice. Lots of it. IMHO they worked better than plain tomatoes. You can get like... gallon cans. _____________________

Tomato juice is what I've heard too.
I thought bathing with vinegar was for sunburn. And a bath with oatmeal to lower the itchyness of chickenpox. EDIT: oh... and this jogged a very old memory of this song... _____________________

Our small dog cornered a skunk a couple months ago (and then came in the house - ugh!) and Cy found a solution that worked well for removing (most) of the smell. It's a mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda and Dish Soap. I found this recipe for it:
You might try the solution above after washing the dog with tomato sauce, as that helps get rid of the skunk oils. Use old gloves and towels, etc - it's easier to toss them than to try to wash the stink out after. _____________________
