You're thinking of the Amish. And I'm betting they're underrepresented on any computer survey. I took the survey awhile back, and it got me right - 100% Neo-Pagan. Gimme that ol' time religion! Oh, gawd, now you got a filk song in my head.... (to the tune of Gimme That Old Time Religion) We will worship L Ron Hubbard and we'll keep him in our cupboard 'til the day he is discovered Dianetics works for me! ![]() _____________________

That's actually a nice belief system. More about personal responsibility than many other religions. I agree, and meant no offense towards Quaker beliefs at all. I just don't believe in the Judeo-Christian god, so I dont feel that it should have been near the top of my list. I believe that the entire universe is alive, and is "God". Hopefully, someday, if we humans are still around, we will see the "truth" in this. _____________________

I am not surprised so many people are finding liberal Quaker so high on the list. The modern Friends are about the most un-dogmatic group to ever develop out of Christian tradition. My parents are Quakers, and this point of finding their own way to a direct relationship to the divine in life is central to their philosophy. Nonviolence, inclusiveness and social justice are also central tenets in their lives.

David, you are a nut. I mean this in the fondness of ways, not in a *look, it's a personal attack, ban Fiona, she called him a food substance to which many are allergic* sort of way. Shame to have to have such disclaimers. Nut. You never have to disclaim around me darlin! And I am a nut, nor am I allergic to other nuts. ![]() _____________________

I got this:
1. Unitarian Universalism (100%) 2. Mahayana Buddhism (98%) 3. Neo-Pagan (96%) 4. Hinduism (90%) 5. New Age (90%) 6. Scientology (90%) 7. New Thought (89%) 8. Jainism (78%) 9. Liberal Quakers (78%) 10. Theravada Buddhism (76%) 11. Reform Judaism (75%) 12. Sikhism (75%) 13. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (73%) 14. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (64%) 15. Bahá'í Faith (61%) 16. Taoism (59%) 17. Orthodox Judaism (58%) 18. Islam (48%) 19. Secular Humanism (48%) 20. Orthodox Quaker (46%) 21. Nontheist (30%) 22. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (28%) 23. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (27%) 24. Seventh Day Adventist (21%) 25. Jehovah's Witness (17%) 26. Eastern Orthodox (15%) 27. Roman Catholic (15%) Feels right; I guess my non-applicables were taken into account correctly. Some questions were really pushing for a fundamentalist pro/anti stance, which I can't always justify. PS: I see the list not as defining ME, rather as indicating which belief systems would make sense to me if I contacted them or believers of those sytems. I reserve the right to believe according to my personal inspiration, and a belief system is for me a good place to look for enlightenment, but I also think any belief system is fundamentally flawed in that it is more system than belief. In a word, I am not churchy ![]() |

The first spot is almost dead on, given that I am a Buddhist. I would say I am closer to Taoist than Theravedic Buddhist, and I don't know how I could be a quaker since I don't belive in christ, or that the bible is the word of god. _____________________

It Says LIBERAL Quaker

Liberal Quakers probably aren't what you think they are.
The adjective is very important. There's a big difference between a Liberal Christian and a Fundamentalist Christian, for example. |

The page with the results provides links to descriptions of the listed belief systems.
Maybe it would be good to look at the contents of the links instead of using the Public Idea of a belief system, to evaluate if the results are accurate or not. A lot of the listed belief systems have a mystical (or other) haze in the public eye, which is not the belief system itself, but some kind of Press "Mirage". |
