Second Life can manage fine without the forums. It's a game afterall and there is live help

I have found live help to be pretty much useless the times I have contacted them

On the flip side... I *HAVE* been spending far more time in the forums lately than in world.

Without this as a distraction maybe I'll actually FINISH a project some day! :)

Well this was probably thought up by a brain-dead zombie. But whatever...

At least we all won't be wasting time on stupid message boards.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I'm not the least bit bothered really. General Topics and The Sandbox have become little more than a parade ground for flag-wrapped US militarists and their Pro-Israeli handlers. Shutting down those forums will help to drive them back to the Free Republic echo chambers from whence they came. Land and Economy forum became a similar parade ground for hardball libertarian capitalists. I never even bothered to poke my head into In-world Political Science. I rather suspect that it's little more than another gutter of reactionary american bigotry. There is a posse who seem to have overtaken some the the soon-to-be-closed forums who love to dish out their hardball politix but run to the resmods when challenged. Also, I have noticed a mean-spirited streak of laissez-faire hardheartedness running through the aforementioned forums. I feel Linden Labs is wise to close them.

We're not all americans here in SL and we're not all gonna fall for the WOT BS.

Congratulations Alazarin! This post wins the final "World Jewish Domination Conspiracy Theory"! The subtle and subdued "pro-Israeli handlers" remark is pure genius.

Well, I just joined the SecondCitizen forums, and they seem to be really active. I'm very thankful.

I can't fault the Lindens either for their decision either--they have a lot more important things to focus on, and I think it will make SL a better place in the end. :)

How will removal of the forums make SL a better place?

The forums were a place where people were getting together to rock the boat, and LL didn't like that. There are a lot of useful things that came out of the forums, that nothing else is going to be able to provide.

The people who seem to thing that being critical = being negative, and being negative = bad, those are the people who I suspect are happy to see the forums go.

But the fact of the matter is, that if no one is ever critical, if no one ever speaks up and says, "Hey, this is broken, and that's not right!" when it come s to technical issues, social issues, managment issues, etc. there's no way to improve thins, and worse, no way to put a stop to it when things are getting worse.

this has to be the dumbest fucking thing LL has EVER done. Their reasons are rather shitty and just hint at them being lazy.

Heya Billybob,

I suspect it has less to do with laziness and more to do with removing all the discussions about child pornography and copyright violations to either solicit more investments, or to sell SL to another firm.

If they are going to rely on their customer support staff, they should start by firing the entire AR team and hiring new people. I emailed them with a serious concern, and never got a response.

And soon... the forums... will... be... gone.

I am going to switch to a basic account, and spend my USD elsewhere.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

Forums are a dime a dozen.

I never considered these part of the service I'm paying for, nor a requirement to enjoy the service I'm paying for.

Curiously enough, I interact with a very different set of people here than I do in world, and I will miss that as the "thread lock" gets promoted to "forum lock".

I doubt that LL is positioning themselves to sell just yet. This party just got out of hand, and rather than wait for the police our hosts are closing the bar early.

This is the first time I have seen the producer of an MMO kill their community forums. It seems a little more than "clearing the bar". But, I respect your opinion.

There really is no way to know what their motivations are. But one thing is for sure... the community isn't one of them.

The real question is, what will everyone do on Wednesdays?
