Absolutely same problem here, 10 seconds then crash down. (new PC, Vista 32, Wifi router, but PC is wire connected). Always down to report message :(

On my old PC and XP was working all quite well. With same router and connection.

For laughs, is your ISP Comcast? Or do you have someone else?

Also, let's see how stable your network connection is.

Windows Key + R > cmd > ping www.google.com -t

That will open a command prompt window, and the ping command will ping Google until you close the window. While it is doing this, open SL again, and wait for it to boot you, then check the command prompt window. Is it reporting any packet loss? Packet loss looks similar to this: http://kbserver.netgear.com/images/1632_ping.gif
It should look like this: http://www.filetransit.com/images/screen/b1ea274bed8ef0ac285d6294ddf47c24_Ping_Test_Easy_Freeware.jpg

I have a solution for vista!
06-13-2008 13:15
I run vista en after installing i was facing the well known problem of crashes and not responding of second life but..... i have found after trying different things the solution wich is working 100% for me and because i know that a lot of people have this problem i came here to announce my solution! It is quit simple... start the compatibility wizard, if you cannot find this wizard, type this word in help en support, then browse manually the second life exe, go next, select windows 2000, next, disable all the things wich start with disable ( last 3) then run as an administrator, thats it! Tell it as much people as possible ( after you tried yourself) so that everybody can go to second life! I am new to second life, so anybody who wants to learn me some things, please add me, any lindendollars are also welcome so feel free to donate me, hehe, dont'even know what i can do with that money in second life?

Kind regards , Evelyn Khandr from the Netherlands

That advice only helps if the application is actively writing to protected areas of the disk (Program Files, Windows, etc). SL by default writes to c:\users\%user%\Appdata.

So as long as you've got the default config, no need to run it as admin (unless you're installing an update).
